To use R15, open Roblox on the website and go to your avatar’s Edit Avatar character settings. Choose R15 if the option is available. This sets your preferred rig, but an individual experience may require R6 or R15 and override that preference.
How to select R15 on the Roblox website
- Sign in to Roblox on the website.
- Open your avatar’s Edit Avatar page.
- Find the character settings and select R15, if the choice is available.
Roblox’s Creator Hub identifies the website’s Edit Avatar character settings as the place that supplies the player’s rig choice. Its documentation does not specify a more detailed sequence of current buttons or menus, so labels and layout may vary.
Why your avatar may still be R6 in a game
An experience can choose its own avatar type instead of following your preference. Roblox documents experience settings for R6, R15, or both; when an experience uses PlayerChoice, it uses the player’s website character setting. See Roblox’s rig-type documentation and StarterPlayer settings.
If you selected R15 but see an R6 character in just one experience, the experience may be configured to use R6. Your account preference cannot make that experience use R15.

What R15 changes—and what it does not
R6 and R15 refer to avatar rigs: R6 has six parts, while R15 has 15. They are not account-gender options. Roblox describes R6 as the legacy stack associated with classic blocky avatars and older experiences, and R15 as the newer technology stack intended to support more avatar styles and capabilities. Roblox CTO Daniel Sturman discussed these differences and compatibility in an article published October 17, 2023: Roblox’s R6 avatar evolution.
An R15 avatar may not look or move the same way in every experience. Sturman notes that an R15 avatar entering an R6 experience can look and move differently, including losing facial expressions. The experience’s rig configuration affects what you see.

Do not change account gender to switch rigs
Changing the gender setting in your account is not how you select R15. Roblox Support says that gender does not change how an avatar looks; use avatar customization for appearance changes. See Roblox Support’s account-gender guidance.
