To hide the chat box while playing, open Experience Controls and switch Chat off, if that control is available in the experience. To restrict chat for your account, change Experience chat in Roblox’s communication settings. These actions have different effects: one hides in-experience chat for the session; the other changes whether the account can use the feature.
Hide the chat box during an experience
- Open Experience Controls while you are in the Roblox experience.
- Look for Chat and toggle it off.
Roblox describes this control as toggling in-experience Chat on or off. Controls depend on the features enabled in the current experience, so the Chat toggle may not appear everywhere. If you cannot find it, the experience may not expose that control; use the account settings below if your goal is to restrict chat more broadly. Roblox Support: Experience Controls
Turn off Experience chat for your account
This setting controls whether your account can use Experience chat; it is not simply a way to dismiss the panel for one session. Roblox’s documented path is:
- Open Settings.
- Select Privacy & content restrictions.
- Open Communication, then Experience chat.
- Adjust the setting shown for your account.
Roblox says communication options can depend on age checks, parental consent, and regional restrictions. Its support page states that users ages 5–9 need parental consent to enable Experience chat. Roblox Support: Experience Chat

Manage a child’s Experience chat
A parent or caregiver managing a linked account can use the parental controls path instead: Settings → Parental Controls → Settings You Manage → Communication → Experience chat. Roblox says parental consent is required for users under 16 to enable Direct chat; Direct chat is distinct from Experience chat. Settings and menu availability may vary by age and region. Remove chat UI from an experience you create
Creators can configure the default chat interface through TextChatService in their own experience. Roblox lists separate configurations for the message window, input bar, channel tabs, and bubble chat. Disable only the elements you want hidden; turning off the chat window does not by itself mean the input bar and speech bubbles are also hidden. Roblox documents ChatWindowConfiguration.Enabled for disabling the chat window and says disabling a configuration hides its associated UI element. Roblox Creator Hub: Text chat overview

This is a creator-side change, not a setting a player can apply to someone else’s experience. Also, a creator may implement custom chat functionality independently; Roblox notes that parental communication settings do not necessarily govern such custom systems. Roblox Support: Experience Chat

If you want to stop seeing messages from one person rather than hide the entire interface, Roblox provides mute and block options and lets users report messages from within the conversation. Those actions address a specific user or message, not the overall chat box. Roblox Support: Experience Chat
