Where to find Howl of Shabriri
The incantation is reported to be in a treasure chest on the second floor of the Frenzy-Flaming Tower in Liurnia of the Lakes, southeast of the Grand Lift of Dectus. What the spell does—and its risks
The in-game description, reproduced on the item page, says the incantation releases a maddening shriek that causes madness buildup in nearby foes. It also causes buildup in the caster and makes enemies more likely to target them. Its buff therefore comes with two costs: self-buildup and increased vulnerability to damage, alongside the attention-drawing effect.

The item page notes that madness generally does not affect ordinary PvE enemies unless they are based on the Tarnished model. That limits the status effect’s usefulness against many routine PvE opponents; it can matter more in PvP or against eligible enemies. This qualification is from the community reference, not a universal claim about every encounter or version.
When it may be useful
Howl of Shabriri is a high-risk offensive buff when the caster can benefit from its damage increase and manage the added incoming damage and enemy attention. Its madness effect is a separate consideration: check whether the target can actually be affected before counting on it as damage or crowd control.

The item page lists interactions with equipment such as the Frenzied Flame Seal, Old Lord’s Talisman, and Roar Medallion. These are in-game equipment synergies, not separate real-world products. The page also reports a patch 1.09 fix to the Roar Medallion interaction.
How it compares with Flame, Grant Me Strength
The item reference identifies Flame, Grant Me Strength as a possible alternative for Frenzied Flame incantations when avoiding Howl’s downside matters. It describes that alternative as lacking Howl’s increased-damage-taken drawback but having a shorter reported duration. Which is preferable depends on the encounter, target, and build; the source does not establish a universally best choice.

Patch notes and lore
The item page surfaces three historical changes: patch 1.04 reduced enemy madness buildup and changed casting and recovery behavior; patch 1.07 extended the attack-and-defense effect from 20 to 40 seconds; and patch 1.09 fixed a Roar Medallion effect bug. The spell’s description calls it an incantation originating from the maddening Three Fingers and says, “It is said that the sickness of the flame of frenzy began with Shabriri, the most reviled man in all history.” That is the game’s lore text, not independently established history. The Shabriri reference page also reproduces his line, “Ahhh, may chaos take the world! May chaos take the world!”
