You can move PS5 saves directly from one console to another over the same network, or use PlayStation Plus cloud storage if you only need saved data. Individual PS5 save files cannot be copied to a USB drive. For a direct transfer, use the same PlayStation account on both consoles and start Settings > System > System Software > Data Transfer on the new PS5.
Choose the right transfer method

Transfer data directly between PS5 consoles
Prepare both consoles
- Sign in to the same PlayStation account on the source PS5 and the destination PS5.
- Update the source console’s system software to the latest version.
- Sync trophy information before starting.
- Connect both consoles to the same network. They can connect to the same router over Wi-Fi. If they normally use Wi-Fi, a LAN cable may improve transfer speed; if both are already wired to the network, they do not need a separate cable directly between them.
During first-time setup
When the destination PS5 reaches the data-transfer stage in initial setup, follow the on-screen instructions to transfer from the source console.
After setup is complete
- Turn on the source PS5.
- On the destination PS5, open Settings > System > System Software.
- Select Data Transfer > Continue.
- Follow the on-screen instructions. The destination console restarts during the transfer.
Some content, including game data, can continue transferring after the restart. Check Downloads/Uploads in the control center to monitor progress. Do not turn off either console, change network settings, or run internet connection tests while the transfer is in progress; PlayStation warns that doing so may damage or lose data. What transfers—and what does not
PlayStation lists saved data, user and account information, screenshots and video clips, PS5-playable games, and console settings as transferable. Data already saved on the destination console is not transferred. Login passcodes transfer too, so use the same passcode when signing in on the destination. If the account is a child account
PlayStation says a child account cannot transfer data during the destination console’s initial setup. Complete setup for the child account first and transfer afterward, or use an adult account during initial setup and transfer both adult and child account data during that process. Move saves using PlayStation Plus cloud storage
Cloud storage is the saves-only option when you do not need to move captures, settings, games, or other console data. It requires a PlayStation Plus membership. On the old PS5, open Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings, choose Saved Data (PS5) or Saved Data (PS4), and upload or sync the relevant saves. On the new PS5, use the same menu to download them. You can also select a game and choose Upload/Download Saved Data. PlayStation’s cloud-storage guide

Check that the right save has synced
For PS5 games, automatic sync can keep console and cloud data aligned with the most recent save. For PS4 games, saves can upload automatically when enabled, but they must be downloaded manually to PS5 console storage. To verify a PS5 save’s status, use Sync Saved Data > View Sync Status or the game’s Check Sync Status of Saved Data option. PlayStation’s cloud-storage guide
Sony Interactive Entertainment’s current PlayStation Support cloud-storage page lists limits of 100 GB for PS5 saved data, 100 GB for PS4 saved data, and 1,000 PS4 saved-data files. Why USB cannot copy an individual PS5 save
A PS5 save cannot be copied from console storage to a USB drive as an individual file. USB file copying supports PS4 saved data, not PS5 saves. To copy PS4 saves from a PS5, connect a FAT- or exFAT-formatted USB drive, then go to Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings > Saved Data (PS4) > Upload or Delete from Console Storage > Copy to USB Drive. A PS5 backup to USB can include saved data, games and apps, screenshots and video clips, and settings. Restoring it to another PS5 requires the same PlayStation account, and the destination must run the same or a newer system-software version than the console used to create the backup. Trophies are not included. Most importantly, restoration erases all data currently on the destination console.
