If you’re lost in Crimson Desert, climb a bell tower and ring its bell to reveal the surrounding region on your map. Start with the tower near Hernand, the starting town; the game’s guides describe eight bells across Pywel, and some later ones may depend on story progress or access to hostile areas.
How to reveal the map in Crimson Desert
- Find a bell tower. Hernand’s nearby tower is the first one identified in the guides. Early in the campaign, Kliff meets a Shai child who points him toward it.
- Climb the tower and ring the bell. The reveal is tied to ringing the bell, not simply reaching the top.
- Check the map. A Shai child appears after the first bell and helps reveal the region’s lay of the land.
GameSpot and PC Gamer each describe eight bells across Pywel. GameSpot connects them with the Pororin Forest Guardians, while PC Gamer frames them as part of the Toll of Pywel quest. Look for additional towers as exploration and the story open up; their order may depend on your progress.
What if ringing a bell does not reveal the map?
Some bells may not trigger their reveal when you first reach them. GameSpot notes story-related restrictions, including a delayed trigger at Scholastone; PC Gamer reports that hostile-area conditions or story progress can prevent the expected cutscene. If the bell does not produce a reveal, continue the relevant story section or return once you can interact with the area safely.
The guides do not establish that every bell behaves identically in every story state, so avoid treating a failed trigger as proof the mechanic is broken or following a fixed route regardless of your progress.

Is it like Assassin’s Creed viewpoints?
Broadly, yes: both use elevated landmarks to help uncover useful map information. But the systems are not established as identical. Ubisoft’s official Assassin’s Creed Shadows overview says viewpoints reveal nearby points of interest through observation and unlock a fast-travel point; it also describes map detail emerging through exploration. That comparison explains the general idea, not a shared reveal radius, synchronization system, or fast-travel rule.
