Yes—but the Nexus Mods listing for Play as Joel in The Last of Us Part II describes a character-play mod, not a way to save Joel or change his story. It says you can play as him in the story; it does not claim to alter what happens to him.
What the Joel mod does—and does not do
The mod’s description says: “This mod allows you to play as Joel in The Last of Us Part II’s Story.” That supports one clear takeaway: it lets you control Joel as a playable character. The listing does not say that it rewrites the plot, prevents his death, or creates an alternate outcome. If you are hoping to change Joel’s fate, this listing offers no evidence that the mod does that.

Is it a way to undo Joel’s fate?
No such feature is established by the mod description. The accurate expectation is that you can play as Joel in the story, not that his canonical fate changes. The title’s “still in denial” framing is playful; it should not be taken as a promise of a rescued-Joel story path.
