In Red Dead Redemption 2 Story Mode, take animal goods to a butcher for cash. Donate suitable carcasses or materials to Pearson if you need camp provisions or upgrades, and take crafting pelts—especially Legendary Animal pelts—to the Trapper. Check what you need before handing over a perfect animal: the right destination depends on whether you want money, camp upgrades, or clothing and gear.
Where to take animal goods

How to sell animal goods for cash
- Bring the carcass, pelt, meat, or other animal material you want to sell to a butcher.
- Use the butcher’s shop interaction and select the goods you want to sell from the available menu.
- Before confirming, check that you are not giving up a perfect item you need for Pearson’s upgrades or the Trapper’s gear.
If you cannot find or select an item, check whether it is stored on your horse or in your satchel and whether that butcher menu accepts that kind of material. The exact menu behavior can vary with the item.
When to donate to Pearson instead
Pearson at the gang camp uses donated animal goods for camp provisions and crafting, including satchel upgrades. Donation is not the same as a cash sale: choose it when the material helps with a camp need or recipe, rather than when you simply want money.

For a crafting-quality hide, pelt, skin, or carcass, start with a three-star animal and use an appropriate clean kill. Weapon choice depends on the animal; consult the in-game hunting information for the specific species. The RDR2.org Pearson crafting guide explains the quality requirements, while the hunting guide notes that excess damage can reduce the result.
When to use the Trapper
Take pelts and other materials there when you want clothing or gear made from animal parts. For Legendary Animals, Rockstar Games Customer Support says you can skin the animal and sell its pelt—or, in some cases, its carcass—to a Trapper. If you lose a Legendary Animal pelt or carcass
Rockstar says that if you cannot skin a Legendary Animal or lose its pelt or carcass before reaching a Trapper, the material is automatically added to the Trapper’s inventory after a short delay. Check the Trapper’s available materials rather than assuming the item is permanently gone.

- Check an animal’s star rating before hunting if you need crafting materials; a three-star animal is needed for perfect materials.
- Use the weapon and kill method suited to that species. An unsuitable weapon or excessive damage can lower the quality of the carcass or pelt.
- Decide on the destination before selling or donating: butcher for cash, Pearson for camp needs, or Trapper for gear.
Rockstar’s historical Title Update 1.15 notes document past fixes involving butcher-shop menus and donated carcass material values. Those old notes do not establish that the same issue is present now, or that every platform behaves identically.
