Hypixel Studios released more than 15 minutes of Hytale gameplay footage on November 18, 2025, one day after announcing it had reacquired the game from Riot Games. The clip showed an older version of Hytale—not a polished trailer or a preview of the finished game. Engadget reported that the lightly edited footage came from a four-year-old build running on the legacy engine, which the studio characterized as “raw and broken.” (Hytale Team; Engadget)
What the new Hytale footage showed
The video was live gameplay from the revived Hytale project, but it did not show a newly finished build. Engadget reported that the footage ran for over 15 minutes, was lightly edited, and used a four-year-old build of the legacy engine. The studio described it, as relayed by Engadget, as “raw and broken, but still beautiful.” (Engadget)
That distinction matters: the clip demonstrated that the team could show a playable older version shortly after the reacquisition announcement. It did not establish that the footage represented the state, polish, or feature set of a completed game.
Why Hytale was cancelled and brought back
On June 23, 2025, Hypixel Studios announced that Hytale development was ending and that the studio would wind down. On November 17, the Hytale Team announced that it had acquired Hytale from Riot Games and was independent again. Simon Collins-Laflamme, signing as Founder, Hypixel, wrote: “Hytale is saved.” (Hytale Team)

The same announcement said more than 30 developers had been rehired and described a 10-year personal funding commitment. Those are claims made by the studio; the footage itself does not verify the funding or longer-term development plans. (Hytale Team)
Why the team returned to an older build
In its November 28, 2025 Early Access announcement, the Hytale Team said it had stepped away from the newer engine rewrite and returned to an older version of the game. The studio said it had selected and merged more than 300 GitHub branches into a working branch, and cautioned that some parts would feel behind because the build had originally been intended for prototypes. This later explanation provides technical context for the November footage: the team was rebuilding from a legacy version rather than presenting a finished product. It does not make the old clip a reliable guide to every feature or system in the later release.
