The 42.8 GB figure was reported in October 2025; Nintendo’s current US digital listing gives Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment a file size of 43.5 GB. The often-repeated “three times bigger” comparison is approximate: it relies on older sizes reported by secondary sources, not a like-for-like current comparison of official listings.
How big is the digital download?
Nintendo’s official US digital product page lists a file size of 43.5 GB. That is the current figure on the listing accessed October 8, 2026; digital store data can change.
The 42.8 GB number refers to an earlier observation, not a conflicting measurement of the same listing at the same time. On October 28, 2025, The Outerhaven reported that Nintendo’s web store showed 42.8 GB, while the console eShop showed 42.7 GB. Storefront and date matter when comparing these numbers.
What does “three times bigger” mean?
The phrase is a rough comparison with earlier games, based on file sizes reported in secondary coverage. A ResetEra post dated October 28, 2025, repeating figures associated with a Bluesky post, gave these values:

- Battle hordes of enemies in the untold story of the Imprisoning War
| Game | Reported file size | Source and qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment | 42.8 GB | The Outerhaven’s report of Nintendo’s web listing on October 28, 2025; its report said the console eShop showed 42.7 GB. |
| Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition | 12.9 GB | ResetEra post dated October 28, 2025, repeating a reported figure; not independently confirmed against an official listing here. |
| Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity | 11.1 GB | ResetEra post dated October 28, 2025, repeating a reported figure; not independently confirmed against an official listing here. |
Using those reported numbers, 42.8 GB is a little over 3.3 times 12.9 GB and about 3.9 times 11.1 GB. That supports the shorthand “over three times” the first game and “almost four times” Age of Calamity. It does not establish an exact, enduring ratio across editions, regions, or later store updates.
Does the larger file size have an official explanation?
No official technical explanation for the increase is established by the cited sources. Nintendo’s product information describes the game’s story and features, but does not attribute its file size to textures, audio, cutscenes, content volume, or compression. Those explanations should not be treated as fact.

- Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment
Is this a Switch 2 game, and does the number apply to a physical copy?
Nintendo lists Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment for Nintendo Switch 2, with a release date of November 6, 2025. Its product description presents it as the story of the Imprisoning War. Nintendo also lists a physical edition; 43.5 GB is the digital listing’s file-size figure, not a measurement of the cartridge or a universal free-space requirement.
Nintendo describes one-to-two-player play on one system and GameShare options. In its November 6, 2025 release article, Nintendo says, “However you choose to play, only one person will need to have the game!” The statement refers to the co-op and GameShare arrangements covered in that article.
