Last Epoch is worth considering if you want a PC action RPG built around character customization and seasonal play, but the available evidence does not support a blanket buy recommendation. Season 5, Rage of the Frostborn, launched on October 1, 2026, and Steam’s review snapshot is sharply more positive over the game’s lifetime than over the most recent month. Check the current listing and recent player feedback before buying, especially if you are concerned about updates or monetization.
What kind of game is Last Epoch?
Last Epoch is an action RPG from Eleventh Hour Games, released on Steam on February 21, 2024. Its central appeal is building a character through class specializations and skill choices: the Steam description lists 15 mastery classes and more than 100 transformative skill trees, alongside dungeons, loot, and crafting. Those figures describe the store pitch, not a measure of how much variety every player will experience.
Steam lists single-player, online co-op, and in-app purchases. That makes it relevant both to players who want to develop a character alone and to those looking for online play, but the listing alone does not establish the quality of matchmaking, server reliability, or co-op balance.
What is new in Last Epoch Season 5?
Season 5, titled Rage of the Frostborn, went live on Steam on October 1, 2026. Eleventh Hour Games highlights the Rage of Morditas seasonal mechanic, faction updates, three new skills, and additional content in its launch announcement. These are announced features; the announcement is not evidence of how well each plays or whether every player will enjoy the season.

What do the reviews say?
At Steam’s October 8, 2026 snapshot, the game had 80% positive feedback from 59,586 English-language reviews overall, labeled “Very Positive.” For the last 30 days, 66% of 168 reviews were positive, labeled “Mixed.” Steam says its score excludes periods of off-topic review activity. These are storefront user-review aggregates, not critic scores or a controlled measure of game quality.

The recent sample is much smaller than the lifetime total and can shift quickly. The gap is worth treating as a signal to investigate rather than a verdict: user reviews may respond to a particular update, technical problems, or policy disputes as well as the core game. Read recent reviews for issues that matter to you, and compare them with the current patch notes instead of relying only on the all-time label.
Do seasonal characters keep their progress?
Eleventh Hour Games’ support guidance distinguishes seasonal play from Legacy. Seasons introduce content and balance changes and reset competitive leaderboards; a seasonal character starts fresh. You can create a character in the active Season or in Legacy while that Season is running. When a Season ends, its characters move to Legacy with their progress retained. See the official Season guidance for the rules.

What should you know about paid content?
The Steam listing includes in-app purchases, and the store description’s 15 mastery classes should not be confused with separately discussed paid classes. In November 2025, PC Gamer reported backlash after Paradox Classes were announced alongside a planned expansion, including players’ concerns about a perceived conflict with the original Kickstarter pledge about cosmetic-only microtransactions. That dated reporting does not establish which classes or add-ons are available, what they cost, or what the final policy is in October 2026.
Before spending, check the current Steam listing and current official announcements for the exact contents and price of the base game and any add-ons. Treat older coverage as historical context rather than a description of today’s offer.

Will Last Epoch run on your PC?
Steam publishes the following Windows requirements. They are listed specifications, not measured performance guarantees; actual results can vary with your hardware and settings. An SSD is strongly recommended.
| Requirement | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 10 | Windows 10 |
| Processor | Intel Core i5 2500 or AMD FX-4350 | Intel Core i5 6500 or AMD Ryzen 3 1200 |
| Memory | 8 GB RAM | 16 GB RAM |
| Graphics | GTX 1060 / RX 580 with 6 GB VRAM | RTX 3060 or RX 6600-XT with 6 GB or more VRAM |
| DirectX | Version 11 | Version 11 |
| Storage | 22 GB | 22 GB |
Compare your Windows PC with the Steam requirements before buying. Meeting the minimum specification does not promise a particular frame rate or smoothness.

Who should consider buying it?
Last Epoch is a plausible fit if the class-and-skill-building premise appeals to you, you want a seasonal fresh start, and you are comfortable checking current updates and paid-content details before purchase. Its published feature list and live Season 5 update make it possible to assess those basics, but they do not establish comparative campaign or endgame depth, performance, stability, or whether it is better than another action RPG.
If you are choosing between Last Epoch and another game, compare the things that will shape your own experience:
- Build flexibility: how each game handles specialization, respecs, and the cost of changing a character.
- Campaign and endgame: the activities you actually want to repeat after the story.
- Season structure: update cadence, leaderboard resets, and what happens to a seasonal character afterward.
- Play style: whether the solo and online options match how you intend to play.
- Total cost: the current base-game price and any paid content you consider necessary.
- Technical fit: published requirements and recent reports from players with hardware like yours.
The strongest case for Last Epoch is its stated emphasis on build customization and active seasonal content. Whether that is enough for you depends on your preferred ARPG systems, current player feedback, and the live purchase terms.
