Battlefield V’s campaign can be challenging, but there is no reliable universal rating that makes it simply “hard” or “easy.” Its War Stories mix direct firefights with stealth and tactical situations, so the experience depends in part on your shooter experience and comfort with avoiding detection. If you are new to first-person shooters, start on a lower or moderate difficulty; you can replay an act at another setting if you want more challenge.
Why the campaign can feel difficult
Battlefield V’s single-player campaign is an anthology of War Stories rather than one continuous mission with a single style. EA’s PlayStation 4 manual describes stories set in different circumstances, including resistance in occupied Norway, operations behind enemy lines, and infantry combat during Operation Dragoon. The shifts in setting and objectives mean that difficulty can come from more than winning straightforward firefights.

Some missions ask you to manage enemy awareness. The manual describes an indicator that rises as enemies detect you, and explains that suspicious activity can draw their attention. Staying low, moving slowly, or throwing a shell casing to distract an enemy are among the documented options. If you prefer to confront every enemy directly, stealth encounters may feel less comfortable; that is a practical inference from the documented mechanics, not an official difficulty score.
What the War Stories ask you to do
EA’s Battlefield V beginner’s guide frames War Stories as a way to learn the game’s sandbox and gives examples of different approaches:

These examples show why one player may find a section manageable while another struggles: some situations reward stealth or planning, while others put the emphasis on combat. EA does not prescribe a particular difficulty setting for every player, so a lower or moderate setting is a reasonable starting point if you are unfamiliar with shooters. You can replay at a higher setting if you want a tougher run.
How to change the campaign difficulty
EA support guidance says to return to the story and select the difficulty when restarting an act or mission. The accepted EA Forums support answer describes selecting Play, choosing the War Story and act, then starting again and choosing the preferred difficulty. An in-progress mission needs to be restarted to change its setting, so you may lose progress in that mission or act.

- Open Play and select the War Story.
- Choose the act you want to replay.
- Start the act or mission again, then select the preferred difficulty when prompted.
Don’t confuse the campaign with Combined Arms
Combined Arms is a separate co-op PvE mode, not part of the War Stories campaign. EA describes Combined Arms as playable solo or with up to three friends, across eight missions with a difficulty setting from easy to hard. Its challenge depends on the mission, squad size, and selected setting; those details do not establish how hard the single-player campaign is.

No official source cited here gives a numeric rating for campaign difficulty, completion rates by setting, or average deaths. Player discussions also disagree, so anecdotes cannot establish how difficult the campaign is for most players. The most useful guide is your own comfort with shooter combat and stealth: begin at a setting that lets you learn the mechanics, and restart an act if you decide you want a different level of challenge.
