No reliable public source confirms that Jason Blundell was working with Bungie on a new IP. What is documented is a separate Sony project: Blundell led Dark Outlaw Games, a Sony studio developing an unrevealed original game. Sony closed the studio in March 2026 before that game was publicly revealed or released.
Was Jason Blundell working with Bungie?
Not according to the public reporting and official statements available as of October 8, 2026. Those sources document Blundell’s work at Sony’s Dark Outlaw Games, but do not connect him or the studio to a Bungie project. That does not rule out private conversations; it means a Blundell–Bungie collaboration has not been publicly confirmed.

The apparent connection may come from two separate Sony stories: Blundell’s original game at Dark Outlaw and Bungie’s own plans for future projects. They should not be treated as one project without evidence linking them.
What was Dark Outlaw Games making?
Sony unveiled Dark Outlaw Games in March 2025 as a first-party studio led by Blundell. PC Gamer reported that Blundell said the team had already been working on something for a while. GameSpot reported that a since-deleted job listing described the studio’s ambition as making “the next groundbreaking AAA original IP” in a “lean and highly efficient” setup; that wording came from the listing, not a current Sony statement.

The project was never publicly revealed. In March 2026, Blundell told GameSpot it was not a live-service game, but said he could not share more. Its name, genre, setting, mechanics, platforms, schedule, and budget were not established in the reporting. GameSpot described Dark Outlaw as a 20-person studio when covering its closure.
Why did Sony close the studio, and is the game coming out?
Sony confirmed the closure in March 2026. A Sony Interactive Entertainment spokesperson told GameSpot: “Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Studio Business Group has made several strategic adjustments to support long-term sustainability.” That is the public rationale; the available statements do not explain the project-level reasons or establish whether the game could continue elsewhere.
There has been no public announcement that the game will be released. Blundell’s reaction, quoted by GameSpot on March 26, was: “The best game is the one you never played, unfortunately.” The remark referred to the unrevealed Dark Outlaw project, not a confirmed Bungie game.

When Sony announced its agreement to acquire Bungie on January 31, 2022, it described Bungie’s focus on Destiny 2, expanding the Destiny universe, and creating new worlds in future IP. Sony also said Bungie would remain an independent subsidiary, with the ability to self-publish and reach players across platforms. The announcement’s statement that Bungie had more than 900 employees was a figure from 2022, not a current headcount. None of these details ties Bungie’s future-IP work to Blundell.
Rank #3
In a June 25, 2026 update, Sony said it had reduced Bungie’s workforce after reviewing the studio’s direction, priorities, resources, and role in Sony’s broader portfolio. Sony described Bungie as beginning a new journey after Destiny 2’s final live-service content update, while saying Marathon remained important and Bungie continued incubation efforts for future projects. Bungie’s September 17, 2026 studio update discussed plans for Destiny and Marathon but did not mention Blundell or Dark Outlaw.
