Little Big City 2 may suit players who want a light, island-themed city builder with development choices, missions, resource gathering, and visits to friends’ islands—but the available evidence does not establish it as the “best” casual game. Gameloft’s feature descriptions explain the game’s premise, not how it feels to play or how it compares with alternatives. There is also a practical caveat: a third-party catalog reports that its Google Play listing was removed in 2024, while Gameloft’s current game page does not confirm whether new installations are supported.
What is Little Big City 2?
Little Big City 2 is Gameloft’s mobile city-management game about turning a tropical island into a metropolis. Gameloft’s official page calls it “Gameloft’s sun-soaked city management sim” and invites players to “Transform your own tropical island into a bustling & beautiful metropolis!” These are the developer’s descriptions, not independent review judgments. Gameloft’s game page
The game was announced as available for Android on Google Play in Gameloft’s January 31, 2017 post. MobyGames records an Android release date of August 21, 2016; that earlier date comes from a historical database rather than Gameloft’s announcement. What do you do in the game?
Gameloft describes several connected systems rather than a single city-planning objective. Players develop the island, select a broad direction for its growth, unlock buildings and landmarks, gather resources, and work through missions and challenges. The developer also describes visiting friends’ islands. These are documented features; the available sources do not establish their depth, pacing, or quality through hands-on play.
#1 Best Overall
- COOPERATIVE TABLETOP BOARD GAME: In this city building, tile-laying board game, players create the biggest possible city in 6 rounds, trying to have the most connections between Location tiles. In each round, a different person takes on the role of mayor. Their mission: secretly connect 3 new locations to the sites.
- BUILD A CITY BY MATCHING IDEAS: Players put their psychoanalysis skills to the test and talk together as they try to get inside the mayor’s mind and determine their thought process. If they are able to correctly guess the mayor’s plans, the city grows with connections worth points at the end of the game.
- FAMILY AND FRIENDS PARTY GAME: This 2 to 6 player cooperative game can be enjoyed by parents playing with their children as well as adults. Best recommended for ages 8 & Up.
- HOW TO PLAY: Construction cones have been placed in the city. The mayor must decide which development would best fit each location. Behind the walls of City Hall, the mayor decides where to expand and then opens the floor to discussion. Players work together to correctly guess the mayor’s choices. When players correctly guess the mayor’s plans for development, location tiles are linked together thus expanding the city!
- COMPONENTS: Link City comes with one City Hall tile, a City Hall screen, 4 construction cones, 8 construction tiles, 57 amenities/business location tiles, 6 bonus tiles and illustrated rules.
Choose a development direction
Gameloft presents three broad development styles: industrial, technology-focused, and arts-oriented. It says that landmarks and buildings add character to the city and help attract citizens and resources. The description suggests a choice about the city’s identity, but does not explain how extensively that choice changes gameplay or whether it can be reversed.
Gather resources and build
Some resources are generated passively, while others can be imported through a harbor boat activity. Gameloft’s descriptions do not give wait times, resource quantities, or a current breakdown of how these systems are balanced. They therefore establish that resource collection is part of the loop, but not whether it feels generous or grind-heavy.

- The rules of the game are simple, but beware: The Lost Cities hold many unseen mysteries!
Follow missions and city challenges
The Mayor and advisors guide players through missions. Gameloft also describes spontaneous challenges connected to the shape of the city. The sources do not provide enough detail to assess mission variety, challenge frequency, or whether these activities remain engaging over a longer playthrough.
Visit friends’ islands
Island visits are part of the developer-described social feature set. The available information does not specify what visitors can do, whether the feature still works with current services, or what is required to use it today.

An archaeology storyline appeared in a 2017 update
In a January 2017 article, Gameloft described an archaeology storyline in which construction uncovers remains of an ancient tribe. Players search a beach for pieces of a totem pole, which provide island bonuses. That article documents an update feature at the time; it does not confirm the game’s current technical condition or the present availability of the content. Gameloft’s 2017 update article

Google Play’s general help explains that an app may not be available because it was removed, is incompatible with a device, is unavailable in a region, or is restricted by parental controls. It does not identify which, if any, of those reasons applies to Little Big City 2. Check the store for your region and device rather than assuming the catalog report describes every user’s situation. Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Does “best casual game” fit?
There is not enough evidence to call Little Big City 2 the best casual game. That would require a defined set of alternatives and a comparison based on play, not simply a feature list or popularity figures. The available sources document a tropical city-building premise, development styles, landmarks, resource systems, missions, challenges, and island visits. They do not provide a firsthand assessment of planning depth, pacing, monetization, or long-term variety.

For a meaningful comparison with another mobile city builder, examine how much control players have over planning, how resource collection and waiting work, how varied missions and events are, what social features remain functional, and whether the game can be installed on your device. Those are questions to check in practice, not proven strengths or shortcomings of this title.
What do ratings and download figures tell us?
AppBrain’s catalog record, accessed in October 2026, reports 4.02 stars from 414,373 ratings and more than 10 million Google Play downloads. It also reports 24 million total downloads before the game became unavailable, but does not identify the original publisher of that total. These are third-party catalog figures; they do not establish current active players, present availability, or how the game stacks up against competitors. AppBrain’s catalog record
How is it monetized?
Gameloft described the Android release as free to download in its January 2017 launch announcement. Its game page includes a general warning that certain apps allow virtual-item purchases and may contain third-party ads, but it does not quantify Little Big City 2’s current purchase options or advertising. The available sources therefore do not establish the game’s present monetization details. Gameloft’s Android launch announcement Gameloft’s game page
Who might enjoy it?
Based on the documented feature set, it may appeal to players looking for a casual mobile city builder with a tropical setting, several broad development styles, guided missions, resource collection, and social island visits. Whether it is a good fit depends on how much planning, waiting, mission variety, and social play you want; those qualities cannot be judged from the developer’s feature descriptions alone. Installation support is also uncertain, so the first practical step is checking your own app store and device.
