Answer Loretta if you want to avoid an immediate confrontation with Gwen. If you call Loretta’s bluff, she tells Gwen that Max was eavesdropping, and Gwen reacts angrily. Answering lets you point Loretta toward Gwen, Safi’s mother Yasmin, or Vinh—but it can make Max sound accusatory, and Loretta may turn Max’s remarks into her own leads.

What happens if you call Loretta’s bluff?
Max refuses to answer Loretta’s questions. Loretta then reports to Gwen that Max was listening in. Gwen chastises Loretta before turning her frustration on Max and shutting her office door. Choose this if refusing Loretta fits your Max, but expect the immediate fallout with Gwen.
What happens if you answer Loretta?
Loretta asks whether Safi had angered someone. Max can name Gwen, Yasmin, or Vinh as someone Loretta might question. This steers Loretta toward a possible lead rather than proving that the person Max names had anything to do with Safi’s murder.

Answering avoids the bluff-triggered report to Gwen, but it does not give Max full control of the conversation: Loretta is a student journalist, and guides note that she can turn Max’s remarks back into leads. Naming someone may also make Max seem accusatory or draw unwanted attention to that person.
Which choice should you make?

For the least immediate social friction, answer. For a more guarded or confrontational role-play choice, call the bluff. Neither option should be treated as evidence against the person Max mentions.

Does the choice affect relationships or the ending?
The immediate Gwen confrontation is clearly described, but published guides do not establish a firm, consistent long-term consequence for this specific decision. A Steam Community guide says the choice does not affect long-term relationships with Loretta and Gwen, while GamesRadar+ describes a relationship impact in the immediate branch. The available accounts therefore support the short-term scene more clearly than any enduring relationship change; they do not justify promising a different ending.

In Life Is Strange: Double Exposure, Max finds her friend Safi dead and opens a parallel timeline in which Safi is alive but still in danger.
