The KFConsole was a bucket-styled gaming PC concept presented by KFC Gaming and Cooler Master in December 2020—not a retail console platform like PlayStation or Xbox. Its headline feature was a chamber intended to keep chicken warm using heat from the computer. The available reporting describes the design and its announced hardware, but does not establish a consumer release, a price, or tested food-warming performance.
What is the KFC Console?
The KFConsole was a custom gaming PC concept built around KFC’s bucket imagery. KFC Gaming first teased it in June 2020, then presented the fuller design with Cooler Master on December 22, 2020. The teaser’s unusual shape invited speculation that it was a joke; the later coverage described a custom-built system rather than a conventional console launch. Know Your Meme’s KFConsole timeline records both the teaser and reveal, while Tom’s Hardware’s December 2020 report includes interviews and further design details.
“Console” was part of the product’s name and presentation, not evidence of a standardized gaming platform. The reported PC components and custom chassis make it closer to a compact, bespoke gaming PC concept than a closed hardware ecosystem.
Was the KFConsole real, and was it ever released?
It was presented as a custom-built system, but the reporting does not establish that consumers could buy it. In December 2020, Tom’s Hardware said details about price, unit quantity, and availability had not been provided. A later secondary article also discusses the lack of a confirmed retail release, but that does not verify every possible private prototype or secondary-market artifact. Position Is Everything’s May 2026 article is a secondary source, not confirmation from KFC or Cooler Master.

No current official sales channel or announced retail price is established by these sources. That is different from proving that no prototype exists; it means there is no substantiated consumer release to treat as a normal purchasable console.
What hardware was announced?
Historical coverage reported PC-style components, but these specifications should not be mistaken for independently tested retail hardware. Know Your Meme’s summary of Cooler Master’s December 2020 technical information lists an Intel NUC 9 Extreme Compute Element, ASUS graphics, and a 1TB SSD, along with ray tracing, VR, and resolutions up to 4K as capabilities or targets. Tom’s Hardware further described ASUS RTX graphics, Seagate NVMe storage, and a modified Cooler Master MasterCase NC100.

| Detail | What the reporting says | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Compute | Intel NUC 9 Extreme Compute Element, according to Know Your Meme; Tom’s Hardware described an Intel NUC-based build. | Announced/reported configuration, not a consumer-unit benchmark. |
| Graphics | ASUS graphics in Know Your Meme’s summary; ASUS RTX graphics in Tom’s Hardware. | Reported component family; exact KFConsole configuration was not confirmed in the cited report. |
| Storage | 1TB SSD in Know Your Meme’s summary; Seagate NVMe storage in Tom’s Hardware. | Reported specifications, not an independently tested product configuration. |
| Chassis | Modified Cooler Master MasterCase NC100, according to Tom’s Hardware. | Custom case design, rather than a standard console shell. |
| Performance claims | Ray tracing, VR, and up to 4K were listed in the technical summary. | Targets or announced capabilities; no benchmark results for a retail KFConsole are established. |
One processor detail needs particular care: Tom’s Hardware said its own Intel NUC 9 Extreme test unit used a Core i9-9980HK, but also reported that it had not received confirmation of the KFConsole’s exact configuration. That test-unit processor should not be stated as a confirmed KFConsole specification.
How was the chicken chamber supposed to work?
The design premise was to route computer heat around the outside of a food chamber, using the system’s heat with the aim of keeping a meal warm while maintaining the hardware’s operating temperature. It was the KFConsole’s signature promotional feature, not a proven cooking function.

The cited reporting provides no independent chamber temperature measurements, food-safety guidance, or safety certification. It therefore does not establish how warm food would get, how consistently it would stay warm, or whether the chamber would be appropriate for storing food. The idea should be understood as a design claim, not as tested appliance performance.
How did the project develop?
- June 12, 2020: KFC Gaming posted a teaser showing a bucket-shaped machine and a chicken chamber. Tom’s Hardware later attributed 11 million organic impressions to that June teaser, a figure reported by KFC and not independently audited in the article.
- December 22, 2020: KFC Gaming and Cooler Master presented the fuller KFConsole concept and discussed its design and reported hardware.
- December 2020: Price, production quantity, and availability remained unspecified in Tom’s Hardware’s report.
Cooler Master participants described the challenge as fitting the system into a compact shape while cooling its hardware. Tim “Timpelay” Malmborg, a CMODX team member, said, “The hardest part was definitely figuring out the entire internal layout to get it as compact as possible and still have sufficient cooling for the hardware.” Ann Ann Kao, Cooler Master community and event manager, put the bucket design in the context of the team’s custom-PC work: “These guys can recreate cars, superheroes, sharks, tanks into PCs, so a bucket was definitely doable.”

How was it different from a PlayStation or Xbox?
The important difference is what the name promised versus what the design described. PlayStation and Xbox are established consumer console platforms; the KFConsole was reported as a custom PC build with PC-style internal components and a distinctive case. The cited coverage does not establish a KFConsole-specific game ecosystem, consumer support path, upgrade policy, or retail product line.
- Platform: PC-style components were reported; a closed console ecosystem was not established.
- Hardware: Components were described for a custom concept, not a standardized range of consumer units.
- Availability: A consumer release and sales channel are not substantiated by the cited sources.
- Food feature: The warming chamber was a stated design premise, without independent performance or safety validation.
What is known—and what remains unverified?
The dated reporting supports the existence of a publicly presented KFConsole concept, its collaboration with Cooler Master, reported PC components, and the intended chicken-chamber design. It does not establish a consumer release, a confirmed final configuration, independent gaming benchmarks, or measured chamber performance. The official Cooler Master landing page is referenced by Know Your Meme, but the details above rely on the accessible dated reporting and historical summary rather than a current official product listing.
