The Switch 2 edition adds a new Star-Crossed World story with extra challenges, but reviews describe the difficulty bump as modest—not a transformation of this approachable platformer into a punishing one. It is best suited to players who want a friendly Kirby adventure with more to master, rather than a demanding platforming test.
What the Switch 2 edition adds
Kirby and the Forgotten Land – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star-Crossed World bundles the original game with the Star-Crossed World story and improved graphics and frame rate, according to Nintendo’s US product page. Nintendo Life’s review describes 12 remixed areas and new transformations; it also reports that the game runs at 60fps on Switch 2. That frame-rate figure is review reporting, not an independently measured benchmark.
The new material is additional content, not a separate replacement for the original adventure. Nintendo Life’s reviewer, PJ O’Reilly, describes “new challenges for hardcore Kirby fans,” while TechRadar’s review characterizes the added content as only a little harder than the base game.
How much harder is Star-Crossed World?
The reviews point to an incremental increase in challenge. The added areas give established players new things to tackle, but the available assessments do not suggest that the full game becomes difficult throughout. “Just the right amount” is a matter of taste: the balance may suit players who like an accessible platformer with optional extra demands, while anyone seeking a consistently tough platforming test may find the change too slight.

Which version should you buy?
If you do not own the original game
Buy the complete Switch 2 Edition + Star-Crossed World package to get both the original adventure and the new story. Nintendo lists a physical edition on its US product page. Prices can change, so check the current listing before purchasing.
If you already own the original Switch game
You do not need to buy the full game again to access the new content. Nintendo says existing owners can purchase the separately sold Switch 2 Edition + Star-Crossed World Upgrade Pack; the original game is required to use it. See Nintendo’s announcement for the upgrade option.

Check which console you have
The added Switch 2 features require a Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo’s UK edition page says that inserting the game card into an original Switch plays the Nintendo Switch version without the Switch 2 additions. Don’t buy the enhanced edition expecting Star-Crossed World features on the original console.

Nintendo’s US physical product listing specifies one to two players on one system and TV, tabletop, and handheld play modes. That establishes local play support, but whether you need another controller depends on your setup and what you already own.
