Did Kingdom Hearts 3 Almost Have a Cars World? What the Leak Actually Shows

A leaked Kingdom Hearts III list reportedly named “Cars (Tentative),” but it does not prove a playable world was built or nearly finished.

A leaked Kingdom Hearts III world list reportedly included the Japanese label カーズ(仮), translated as “Cars (Tentative).” That suggests a Cars-themed world was at least listed provisionally, but it does not show that a playable level was built or nearly finished. Reports say the examined files contained no Cars character models or environment assets, and the list also mixed playable worlds with cutscene-only areas.

Was there a Cars world in Kingdom Hearts 3?

There is evidence of a tentative Cars entry, not a confirmed, developed world. Destructoid reported that a fan researcher highlighted カーズ(仮) in leaked Kingdom Hearts III Premium Showcase material, including development screenshots and documents from around 2017. The label was translated as “Cars (Tentative),” and that qualifier is important: a provisional list entry does not establish that the idea was approved or advanced into production. Destructoid’s report describes the entry and the leaked material.

The list reportedly had 19 entries, while the released game had 18 worlds. But the list included both playable worlds and cutscene-only areas, so its entries cannot all be read as plans for playable levels. The reported count is a description of that list, not a measure of how close Cars came to release.

What the leak does—and does not—show

Reports on the files say researchers found no Cars character models or environment assets in the material they examined. TweakTown’s report also notes the lack of Cars-related files. This absence does not prove that no other Cars material ever existed; it means the reported leak did not reveal the sort of assets that would demonstrate a developed game world.

Evidence status What can be said
Tentative file-list reference カーズ(仮), rendered as “Cars (Tentative),” reportedly appeared in a leaked world list.
Developed Cars content The reports say no Cars models or environments were found in the examined material; they do not document a playable level.
Possible setting or gameplay Not established. Ideas such as Radiator Springs, car transformations, or racing are fan speculation, not documented designs.

TweakTown suggests the idea may not have reached concept-art or asset development, but that is the reporter’s inference from the missing files—not a developer-confirmed account of when or why the idea stopped. The available reports do not identify who proposed the entry, whether Disney or Pixar approved it, how long it remained under consideration, or why it was absent from the finished game.

What Nomura’s Pixar comments add to the story

Director Tetsuya Nomura has discussed the broader process of bringing Pixar worlds into Kingdom Hearts III, but the cited interviews do not mention the Cars entry or explain its omission. In a KH13 reproduction of a 2018 USgamer interview, Nomura said, “I’ve always wanted to have a Pixar world within Kingdom Hearts, it’s just that Disney has always returned to me and said that it will be difficult to make it happen.” He added that the situation had changed and the team could negotiate with Disney and Pixar for the third game. That gives context for Pixar collaboration, not evidence that Cars was pitched, accepted, or rejected. Read the KH13 reproduction of the interview.

In a translated Kingdom Hearts III Ultimania interview, Nomura said Toy Box was the first world selected for the game. He described wanting battles built around getting in and out of robots and emphasizing time-sensitive commands. That is a concrete example of a world being paired with gameplay ideas, but it says nothing about what a hypothetical Cars world would have involved. In the same interview, Nomura explained that the Toy Story and Monsters, Inc. stories followed a creator-requested continuity approach: “However, with Toy Story and Monsters Inc., upon request from the creators, we went with a pattern of depicting a period set after the movie as an ‘authorized history.’” This applies to those included worlds, not the tentative Cars reference. Read the translated Ultimania interview at KH13.

Was the Cars world scrapped?

“Scrapped Cars world” is stronger than the evidence supports. The leak indicates a tentative listing; the reporting does not establish a confirmed level that was later cut, a cancellation stage, or a reason for its disappearance. The most accurate description is that Cars reportedly appeared as a provisional entry in development material, while no developed Cars world is documented in the examined files.
