What modes and features did Nintendo announce?
Road Trip
Road Trip is a new story-driven mode featuring Kirby and other riders. It combines challenges drawn from Air Ride, City Trial and Top Ride, including races, battles and Field Events. Players collect machines and items to use between challenges.
Top Ride
Top Ride returns as a top-down racing mode on courses inspired by Air Ride. Players choose riders and machines separately, and can use Quick Spins, Boost Charges, Copy Abilities and mode-exclusive items. Nintendo’s recap describes online races for up to eight players and local play on one system with three other players and four CPUs.
#1 Best Overall
- The next evolution of Nintendo Switch
- One system, three play modes: TV, Tabletop, and Handheld
- Larger, vivid, 7.9” LCD touch screen with support for HDR and up to 120 fps
- Dock that supports 4K when connected to a compatible TV*
- GameChat** lets you voice chat, share your game screen, and connect via video chat as you play
Paddock and online play
Paddock is an online gathering space where riders can move around, arrange matches, interact, choose modes, change music, send emotes and pose. Nintendo said multiple matches could take place within one Paddock. Its capacity differed between the demo and the finished game: the Global Test Ride supported up to 16 people, while the retail version could accommodate up to 32.
Swap Relay and Transform Star
In Swap Relay, racers choose a machine for each lap and switch automatically when a lap ends. Nintendo also described a local relay option where players pass the controller. Transform Star is a new machine that changes between a star-shaped flying form and a bike-shaped driving form when the player rapidly moves the Left Stick.
Checklist, customization and collectibles
The returning Checklist objective-and-unlock system has tabs for Air Ride, Top Ride, City Trial, Road Trip and Online. Nintendo said riders and machines are not locked behind the Online tab, so online play is not required to unlock those items.
My Machine lets players decorate machines with decals, accessories, patterns and effects. Nintendo also described a Machine Market for listing and acquiring player-designed machines using in-game currency, custom garages and machine-shaped Gummies earned for placing above opponents.

Yes. The event and its promotional offers are over, and Nintendo’s current Canadian product page labels Kirby Air Riders “Available Now” and lists digital and physical editions for Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo’s October 2025 recap said the game would launch November 20, 2025, and showed a US regular price of $69.99 at that time; that historical figure is not a verified current price.
Nintendo also described a hat usable during the second Global Test Ride weekend for people who had preordered the digital game. The offer was time-limited, and the hat did not transfer to the full game.
