As of October 8, 2026, KIXEYE describes Kixeye.com as a supported way to play, while the Steam desktop version is in Early Access. The game centers on building a base, gathering resources and fighting other commanders.
What is War Commander?
KIXEYE describes War Commander as a post-apocalyptic real-time strategy game launched in 2011. Players build and defend bases, gather metal, oil and thorium, and assemble forces that include tanks, infantry and aircraft. Combat includes attacking rival territory as well as defending your own.
The game also has a multiplayer layer organized around sectors on a world map, alliances, PvE missions and PvP competition. KIXEYE says events and operations add missions and rewards. Its Steam description likewise lists base building, resource production, research, missions, world-map targets, unit upgrades and customization. That store description is the publisher’s account of the game, not an independent review.
Is War Commander still on Facebook?
War Commander originated as a Facebook web game, but its current play options are not limited to Facebook. In a KIXEYE developer update, the company said Facebook Web Gaming was scheduled to shut down on September 30, 2026. That is the date stated in the announcement; the announcement alone does not confirm whether the shutdown was completed.

The same update says Kixeye.com remains a fully supported option outside Steam. KIXEYE’s support hub was also listing October 2026 events and version 16.18.1 release notes, evidence that support activity was continuing at that time. Check the official War Commander support hub for current notices and help.
Can you play War Commander on Steam?
Yes. KIXEYE released the desktop Steam version into Early Access on July 23, 2026. The Steam store page identifies KIXEYE as developer and publisher and describes the game as free to play with in-game purchases.

KIXEYE’s Steam page says, “War Commander started life as a Facebook Web Game and requires changes to better suit the Desktop platform.” The developer update says browser compatibility and caching challenges motivated the move, and that Steam should provide “a more stable client with better performance expectations.” These are KIXEYE’s stated reasons and expectations, not independent performance test results.

KIXEYE’s developer update also says gold costs less through Kixeye.com than through Steam. The game has optional digital purchases, so prices may differ by platform; check the current price in the relevant store before buying.

If you are trying to resume a Facebook-era account, do not assume that account transfer or continuity works a particular way. Instructions can depend on the account and current migration policy. Use the official KIXEYE support pages for account-specific guidance rather than relying on community posts.

No. War Commander: Rogue Assault is a separate mobile game, not another name for the Facebook-origin desktop game. KIXEYE lists Rogue Assault among its mobile games and War Commander among its desktop games. Its Google Play listing describes Rogue Assault as a mobile real-time strategy game featuring direct control of army vehicles and in-app purchases. Those mobile features should not be assumed to describe the desktop War Commander.
