LEGO Fortnite v30.40 added Battle Bus fast travel through Bus Stations, made most settings editable in existing worlds, and introduced new toys, vehicle builds, map tools, and inventory improvements. Epic published these notes on August 5, 2024, ahead of the update’s announced August 6 release; this is a historical guide to that update, not a description of the current game.
How Battle Bus fast travel worked in v30.40
Bus Stations created a fast-travel network. Epic said stations would already be set up in worlds. To travel, players used a station, selected another Bus Station, and rode a flying Battle Bus to the destination. Epic’s v30.40 notes describe the update’s original mechanics.
Players could also build extra stations, but first had to destroy a station to obtain Rift Shards, which were required to make another one. LEGO’s later explainer says stations can be found around the world, sometimes near villages, and lists Iron Bars, Malachite Slabs, Frostpine, and Rift Shards as station materials. It also says an Epic Pickaxe is needed to break down a station; its listed crafting requirements are 8 Obsidian Slabs and 5 Frostpine Rods. These are details from LEGO’s Battle Bus explainer, whose publication date is not stated on the page.
Keep later changes separate from the v30.40 launch: LEGO’s explainer notes that the Lost Isles update added another way to get Rift Shards, by defeating Golems. That was not one of the v30.40 changes.

Which settings could players change in existing worlds?
Before this update, changing world settings could mean starting over. Epic said v30.40 let players change every setting in an existing world except the selected mode—Cozy, Survival, Sandbox, or Expert—and Player Elimination. Settings locked by Expert mode remained locked. As Epic put it, “You no longer have to make a new world if you want to change your settings!”
Changes to nearby characters and creatures were not always immediate: turning enemies off did not remove enemies already present until players defeated them or left the area. Turning friendly creatures or villagers off likewise left existing ones in place until players left the area.

What new toys and vehicle builds were added?
v30.40 added four toys for channel-based creations. The key distinction between the two plates is whether a player must keep standing on the device:

| Activated Balloon Large | Recipe unlocks by crafting a Loom. Starts uninflated and can be inflated using channel control. |
The two new vehicle builds were the Kart Racer and Offroad Flyer. Epic’s v30.40 announcement lists these toys and builds.

What changed in the Codex, map, inventory, and build menu?
- Codex: Recorded discoveries, offered hints, and tracked recipes in progress.
- Map: Could zoom farther out and pan across the world. Controller users gained a virtual cursor, and players could place map pings that left a marker in the world.
- Inventory: Increased to 32 slots.
- Build menu: Added filters by theme or set.
- World organization: Players could name worlds and villages.
Which outfits and shop items were announced?
Five outfits received LEGO Styles in the update: Abyss, Antheia, The Cube Queen, Ember, and Indiana Jones.
Epic also announced that the Pirate Lifestyle Bundle would arrive in the Item Shop on August 6, 2024, for 1,000 V-Bucks at that time. It included the Captain’s Battlement LEGO Kit, Captain’s Cabin decor bundle, and Seaport Style decor bundle.
