Battlefield 6’s official launch live-action trailer opens with Zac Efron, Jimmy Butler, Morgan Wallen and Paddy Pimblett in combat gear—then quickly removes them from the fight. The abrupt switch to an ordinary squad is why contemporary coverage read the video as a jab at Call of Duty’s celebrity-filled live-action ads. EA has not confirmed that interpretation.
What happens in the Battlefield 6 live-action trailer?
The video, titled Battlefield 6: Official Launch Live Action Trailer, was published by the verified Battlefield YouTube channel on September 28, 2025. It begins with four familiar faces—Zac Efron, basketball player Jimmy Butler, country musician Morgan Wallen and MMA fighter Paddy Pimblett—portrayed as soldiers. Their moment in the spotlight is short: a missile abruptly takes the celebrity group out of the action, and the trailer turns to a regular squad fighting on.
That contrast supplies the joke. The famous guests are not presented as the heroes who carry the battle; the squad becomes the focus after they are gone.
Why viewers saw a Call of Duty jab
GameSpot and Insider Gaming interpreted the opening as a dig at Call of Duty’s use of celebrity appearances in live-action advertising. The reading fits the trailer’s quick reversal: it introduces recognizable celebrities as soldiers, then clears the way for an ordinary team.

That is a media interpretation, not a confirmed EA statement about the creative intent. EA’s official material identifies the trailer and its Battlefield story context but does not say Call of Duty was its target.
How the trailer fits Battlefield 6’s story
EA describes the squad as facing Pax Armata while it storms a war-torn New York City. After the opening gag, the trailer shifts into that fictional conflict and puts the squad—not the celebrity cameos—at the center of the action.
