When is team voice chat coming to League of Legends?
Riot’s September 8, 2026 developer update names Patch 26.20 as the planned starting point for the rollout in North America and Oceania. Patch 26.20 is a version number, not a calendar date. Riot has not given a specific day for its arrival or a timetable for adding other regions. The company says expansion beyond the initial regions will depend on how the rollout goes. How will League team voice work?
The planned feature expands the existing voice system, which lets players talk with members of their premade party, to include everyone on the team. Riot says it is working on better noise cancellation, faster connections and greater stability. The update provides no technical specifications or test results for those changes, so it does not establish how they will perform in practice.
Who will be allowed to speak?
Riot says speaking access will be tied to Honor level. It has not published the exact level threshold or the full rules governing access and moderation. Players should not assume that every account will be able to speak when the rollout begins.

The policy has developed since Riot’s March 13, 2026 announcement, when the company said it was still exploring team voice and working out good-standing access criteria. Riot’s March announcement said its earlier hesitation was that team voice did not meet its safety and reliability standards; the company said advances in identifying bad actors had changed its assessment. Riot described coordination and teamwork as possible benefits, not measured or guaranteed outcomes.
Do you need a headset or microphone?
Riot has not said that a physical headset is required, specified supported hardware or recommended a particular model. A microphone-equipped headset is one optional way to use voice chat, but the announcement does not establish that players must buy one or that any specific device has been tested.

What should players watch for as the rollout begins?
- Region and patch: The announced starting regions are North America and Oceania, with Patch 26.20 as the planned start; Riot has not published a calendar date.
- Speaking access: Eligibility is linked to Honor, but the threshold and complete access rules are not yet specified in the update.
- Voice quality: Riot lists noise cancellation, connection speed and stability as areas of work, without publishing performance figures.
- Regional expansion: Further rollout depends on how the initial launch goes; there is no confirmed schedule for other regions.
For families in the United States, Riot separately says its parental controls can disable text and voice chat or limit them to friends in League and other covered Riot PC games.
