September 15, 2021 was the announced start date for League of Legends: Wild Rift in China—not the date it ultimately launched. Tencent released the game in China on October 8, 2021, according to the South China Morning Post.
What was announced for September 15?
A notice reported by IT之家 on September 3, 2021 said the game’s “non-deleting test” would begin on September 15. The notice listed iOS and Android and said players could log in using QQ or WeChat. In this context, “non-deleting” means player data would not be wiped as part of that test. IT之家 reproduced the notice’s date label as “开服时间：2021 年 9 月 15 日” (“Opening date: September 15, 2021”). IT之家’s report described Riot Games as developer and Tencent as operator in mainland China.
A September 14 report by Gizmochina also described September 15 as the expected wider beta date and said player progress would be retained. It attributed the announcement to Wild Rift’s Weibo account. Gizmochina additionally reported Chinese regulatory approval that week; that approval detail is specific to its report. When did Wild Rift actually launch in China?
The later, completed-release date reported by the South China Morning Post on October 8, 2021 was October 8, 2021. The two dates describe different events: September 15 was the announced start of the test, while October 8 was the reported China release.

How did the China launch perform?
Tencent’s third-quarter 2021 earnings presentation said the China launch reactivated and enlarged the League of Legends franchise’s user base. It reported that Wild Rift ranked second among all mobile games in China by daily active users (DAU) in October 2021. Tencent attributed the DAU measure to QuestMobile and specified iOS and Android; this is Tencent’s reported ranking, not an independent verification here. Tencent’s investor financial-news page.
