Those are two different meanings of “rare.” The tier is the game’s cosmetic label; the Battle Pass history makes it a legacy item, but neither tells us how many accounts own it.
What does “rare” mean for Royale Knight?
There are two useful answers to the question, and they should not be confused:

- In-game rarity: The Royale Knight item listing identifies it as an Outfit with the rarity tier Rare.
- Historical availability: The same community-maintained item reference says it was unlocked at Tier 21 of the Chapter 1 Season 2 Battle Pass. That makes it a legacy cosmetic tied to an earlier pass, rather than an item with an established public owner count.
The item reference also associates Royale Knight with the Fort Knights set, lists its addition in update v1.11 and a release date of December 14, 2017, and gives the description “The dauntless champion of Tomato Town.” These are community-maintained item details, not an Epic item archive entry. Was Royale Knight exclusive to the Season 2 Battle Pass?
The item-specific reference lists Tier 21 of the Chapter 1 Season 2 Battle Pass as its unlock route. Epic’s Season 3 Battle Pass explanation described the pass as “a way to get exclusive loot by playing Fortnite” and said players would keep the Season 2 rewards they had earned. That official page provides context for how Battle Pass rewards worked, but does not mention Royale Knight by name. Epic’s Season 3 Battle Pass announcement

Can Royale Knight return to the Item Shop?
A third-party Fortnite tracker currently records Royale Knight as having zero Item Shop occurrences and shows “Never” for its last-seen and release-date fields. On that page, “Release Date” appears to refer to an Item Shop release: the listing separately identifies the outfit’s Tier 21 (S2) Battle Pass association. Tracker records can change or be incomplete, and this is not an official Epic policy guaranteeing the outfit can never return. fnbr.co Royale Knight tracker
Epic’s 2023 Fortnite OG announcement showed that some Chapter 1 Season 2-inspired cosmetics were revisited in a new pass. It does not name Royale Knight as a reward, so it is not evidence that this outfit returned. Epic’s Fortnite OG announcement

How many players own Royale Knight?
No reliable ownership count, drop rate, or Epic-published statistic establishes how many accounts have Royale Knight. Its Rare label and Battle Pass history are not substitutes for that data, so claims that only a particular number of players own it—or that it ranks among the rarest outfits by ownership—are not supported by these sources.
