No. The Forest does not support cross-play between PC/Steam and PlayStation. PS5 can run the PS4 version, but that does not create a shared PC–console multiplayer pool. The official listings reviewed identify PC/Steam and PS4 editions, not Xbox or Nintendo Switch versions.
Can PC and PlayStation players play The Forest together?
No. A Steam player and a PlayStation player cannot join the same online session in The Forest. Steam lists online co-op for the PC game, while PlayStation lists the PS4 version; neither store listing advertises cross-platform play. A Steam Community discussion also says PC-to-PS4 cross-play is unavailable, though that discussion is community corroboration rather than an official developer statement.

Online co-op means multiple players can play together using compatible versions; it does not mean players on different platforms can connect. The developer’s announcement of four-player co-op for PS4 likewise describes player capacity, not cross-play.

What if one player has a PS5?
A PS5 player can play the PS4 edition through compatibility, subject to PlayStation’s warning that some PS4 features may be absent. This does not make The Forest cross-platform: PC/Steam players still cannot join that PlayStation session. For online play on PlayStation, the store listing says PS Plus is required.

Is Sons of the Forest cross-platform with The Forest?
No shared play between the two games is established by the platform listings. Sons of the Forest is a separate sequel, described on Steam as a new experience from the makers of The Forest. Its online co-op listing applies to that separate game; it should not be read as a platform or cross-play detail for the original The Forest.
