There is no blanket Roblox ruling in the reviewed official guidance that every practice called the “40% method” is bannable—or safe. The phrase is ambiguous, so the risk depends on what you actually do. Roblox says to use its approved channels for Robux and describes deals arranged outside Roblox as unsafe and unenforceable. Its official Trade feature has its own fee and limits.
What does “40% method” mean?
Roblox players use “40% method,” “40% off method,” and similar phrases for different things. The label alone does not establish whether someone is making an official trade, buying through an experience, moving Robux or items between accounts or groups, or arranging a deal outside Roblox. Community posts use the term inconsistently and are not Roblox policy.
Before judging whether a particular transaction could violate a rule, identify the exact steps: where the Robux or items move, which Roblox feature is used, and whether any part of the arrangement happens off-platform.
What Roblox’s rules establish
Robux should move through approved channels
Roblox’s surfaced Terms of Use say Robux may be used only through channels and mechanisms Roblox makes available or approves. The surfaced Terms page is for the EEA, UK, and Switzerland and lists an effective date of November 1, 2026—later than October 8, 2026. Do not treat that version as already in force on October 8; check the current Terms that apply to your country: Roblox Terms of Use.

Deals outside Roblox are not protected
Roblox’s US help guidance identifies its Trade and Sell features as safe ways to swap items or Robux. It says Roblox cannot enforce outside deals or return Robux or items lost in them, and advises: “Treat every other method as unsafe.” Read How to Avoid Trading Scams.
That is a clear warning about safety and enforcement, but it is not a published blanket statement that every transaction users call the “40% method” automatically results in a ban.

How the official Trade feature handles Robux
If the method you mean is an actual Roblox Trade, Roblox’s US trading guide states that an accepted trade containing Robux incurs a 30% fee. It also limits the Robux added to no more than 50% of the value of the offered items after the fee. Those mechanics apply to the official Trade feature; they do not define every activity described online as a “40% method.” See Trading System.
How to assess your specific situation
- Write down the transaction. Identify the accounts involved, what changes hands, and where each step happens.
- Check whether it uses an official Roblox feature. For a Trade or Sell transaction, follow the feature’s published rules. Do not assume a deal arranged elsewhere is covered by those protections.
- Check the current Terms for your region. Roblox’s surfaced Terms can differ by region and effective date; use the version that applies to your account.
- Ask Roblox Support about unclear transactions. Give them the actual steps rather than relying on the informal “40% method” label.
Does using an alternate account change the answer?
The reviewed official sources do not specifically address every “40% method” variant involving an alternate account, so they do not support a promise that using an alt makes a transaction safe or undetectable. Evaluate the underlying transaction against Roblox’s approved channels and current regional rules, regardless of which account is used.
