King of Meat received a mixed response from critics: its PS5 version has a 70/100 Metascore from 19 reviews. Reviewers highlighted the cooperative play and dungeon creator, while raising concerns about platforming, solo depth, and its humor. There is an important current-status caveat: TechRadar reported that the game’s servers closed on April 9, 2026, and that Amazon promised full refunds to all players.

What is King of Meat’s critic score?

On Metacritic’s PS5 critic page, King of Meat has a Metascore of 70 from 19 critic reviews, classified as “Mixed or Average.” The listed reviews break down into 7 positive (37%), 12 mixed (63%), and 0 negative. These figures describe the PS5 page, not every platform. Metacritic’s PS5 critic reviews

Metacritic’s all-platform overview displays aggregates of 75 from 9 reviews, 70 from 19 reviews, and 72 from 5 reviews. The available listing does not reliably identify the platform for each figure, so only the 70 from 19 can be confidently labeled as the PS5 score. Metacritic’s all-platform overview

What did critics like and dislike?

Reviews most often found the appeal in playing with friends and making dungeons. The game’s creator tools let players build obstacle-filled challenges for others, and customization adds to the party-game feel. These strengths depend on the experience of playing together and exploring community-made content.

The main caveats in reviews were cumbersome platforming, a solo experience that could feel thin or repetitive, and parody humor that may not work for everyone. These are recurring review themes, not a claim that every critic reached the same judgment. TechRadar’s PS5 review praised the dungeon maker and customization while criticizing the platforming and some of the persistent parody. Its review reflects the game at launch, rather than its present availability. TechRadar’s PS5 review

The Steam store listing says the game requires a persistent internet connection and does not support offline play. That means a purchased copy should not be treated as playable after the reported server closure. Who was King of Meat for?

At launch, critics’ praise suggests the best fit was a group that wanted a cooperative party challenge and enjoyed experimenting with player-made dungeons. The mixed PS5 aggregate and reported shortcomings in platforming, solo content, and humor point to less appeal for players looking primarily for a polished solo campaign. Because of the reported server closure and the game’s online requirement, that launch-era distinction is no longer a current way to decide whether to start playing.

The ESRB rated King of Meat T for Teen, with Blood and Gore, Crude Humor, Language, and Violence as content descriptors. ESRB rating record
