The treasure is a hoax: the map is fake, so don’t expect a chest at the marked spot. At the final conversation, you can seek repayment by threatening him or respond forgivingly; guides report different outcomes for those choices.
How to start “X Marks the Spot”
Find Hired Hand Krizhan in Pschitoky, in the Kuttenberg Region. PowerPyx lists completion of Main Quest 14, “Speak of the Devil,” as the requirement to access the task. If you need help locating Krizhan, a tipster at a tavern south along the main road toward Kuttenberg can point you his way, according to PowerPyx’s walkthrough.

Buy the map and find the mine
- Purchase Krizhan’s Treasure Map. Krizhan asks 100 Groschen for it, as reported by PowerPyx and Gameranx.
- Read the map from your inventory. Acquiring it alone is not the same as examining it; open the inventory and read Krizhan’s Treasure Map.
- Travel to the marked mine or cave near the bandit camp. The guides describe the destination as north of Kuttenberg, while another locates it east of Old Kutna. Use the map and nearby camp or mine landmarks rather than relying on a single compass description. The guides’ directions are not fully consistent.
What to do at the bandit camp
Expect bandits at the camp and investigate the mine or cave. The encounter can vary: PowerPyx describes a leader digging in the tunnel and says he may surrender after combat and be questioned; Gameranx reports four bandits outside and says the leader carries another copy of the same map. These are guide-reported details, not a guarantee that every player will see an identical sequence.
There is no genuine treasure chest waiting at the X. The map is fake. 100% Guides describes digging three holes in the cave before returning to Krizhan, but doing so does not turn the hoax into a treasure reward.

Return to Krizhan: repayment or a possible teacher
Go back to Pschitoky and confront Krizhan about the false map. The reviewed walkthroughs report a choice between pressing him for your money and taking a more forgiving approach, but they do not document every dialogue branch.
- Demand repayment: Gameranx reports that a successful threat can recover the 100 Groschen you paid.
- Respond forgivingly: PowerPyx reports that declining to demand repayment and being nice can make Krizhan available as a skill teacher.
These are reported outcomes from guides published in February and March 2025; the pages do not establish every possible consequence or whether later game updates changed quest behavior.
