It launched on April 15, 2025, as part of Patch 1.2.4, adding a new-playthrough option with tougher navigation rules and mandatory negative perks.
When did Hardcore Mode come out?
Hardcore Mode launched on April 15, 2025. Warhorse Studios’ release video is dated that day, and Steam’s official news post announced that it would arrive April 15. PLAION’s Patch 1.2.4 notes confirm that the update added the option to start a new playthrough in Hardcore Mode.

What changes in Hardcore Mode?
The mode makes it harder to rely on map and travel conveniences, and it requires players to take on lasting character drawbacks from the outset.
- No automatic player marker: Henry’s position is no longer automatically displayed on the map.
- No cardinal compass directions: The compass no longer shows cardinal directions, so players must navigate without those indicators.
- No fast travel: Fast travel is unavailable.
- At least three negative perks: At the beginning of a Hardcore playthrough, players must select a minimum of three permanent negative perks.
What do the negative perks do?
The official Hardcore Mode overview gives examples of the drawbacks. Heavy-Footed makes Henry noisier when moving and causes his shoe leather to wear faster. Sweaty makes him more pungent. Numbskull slows his experience gains. These are examples rather than a complete list of available perks.

How do you access it?
Hardcore Mode is a playthrough option added to Kingdom Come: Deliverance II through Patch 1.2.4, not a separately described purchase. Start a new playthrough and choose Hardcore Mode; you then select at least three negative perks at the beginning. The patch also included other game fixes and changes, but Hardcore Mode is the update’s defining addition for players seeking a more demanding run.
