What is MultiVersus’ Metacritic score?
Metacritic’s PlayStation 5 critic-review page lists a 75 Metascore, categorized as “Generally Favorable,” with 23 critic reviews shown. The displayed sentiment breakdown is 13 positive (65%), six mixed (30%), and one negative (5%). Those displayed category counts add up to 20, not 23; Metacritic’s page does not reconcile the difference, so the figures should be read as displayed rather than treated as a complete accounting.
This is Metacritic’s aggregate for the PS5-filtered critic reviews. It is not a user score, nor does the number describe the game’s present service status.
What did critics like and dislike about MultiVersus?
Team fighting, roster, and character movesets
The review excerpts point to the crossover roster, character-specific movesets, presentation, and especially the team-based 2v2 combat as key attractions. These are recurring themes in the excerpts, not claims that every critic agreed.

Hardcore Gamer wrote that “MultiVersus shows there’s enough promise to expand the platform fighter genre with a new focus on 2v2 gameplay and intriguing movesets for each character.” GameSpot praised the team mechanics as “truly beyond anything else offered in a platform fighter.” Both quotations are publication excerpts reproduced on Metacritic.
Unlocking characters and progression
Progression was a notable reservation. GameSpot cautioned that unlocking every character without spending money “will definitely be a chore.” That distinction matters: free-to-play access did not necessarily mean quick or effortless access to the full roster.

Balance and polish
Some excerpts also raised concerns about balance, battle-pass progression, and rough edges. The aggregate score gives the overall critical reception, while these specific criticisms help explain why favorable reviews were not unreserved praise.
Is MultiVersus still playable, and can you download it?
No new player can download MultiVersus from the storefronts named by Warner Bros. Games’ official Season 5 FAQ. The FAQ says online play and downloads from PlayStation Network, Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store ended after May 30, 2025. Season 5, which ran from February 4 through May 30, 2025, was the game’s final season and content update.

The FAQ describes offline play for players who installed the latest version and logged in during Season 5, creating the required local save through the relevant platform login. Eligible players can play solo against AI, use local play with up to three other players, or enter The Lab. Warner Bros. said offline availability would continue “for the foreseeable future.” That does not guarantee access for every former player: whether a particular installation, account, or save still works depends on the required prior setup.

Player First Games developed MultiVersus, and Warner Bros. Games published it. Metacritic lists its initial release date as May 28, 2024, and lists PlayStation 5, PC, Xbox Series X, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The 75 Metascore summarizes critics’ launch-era views of the game; it should not be read as a current recommendation to start playing, since downloads and online service have ended.

For a platform-fighter comparison, the reviews are most useful when considered across distinct questions: whether the combat and team play appeal to you, whether the roster and presentation stand out, how much progression friction you will tolerate, and whether the game is still accessible. In MultiVersus’ case, the critic excerpts speak to the first three; the official shutdown notice determines the last.
