At the time the project page was checked on October 8, 2026, its latest listed file was version 1.11.3 for Minecraft 26.2, dated October 6, 2026. The listing also showed files for Minecraft 26.1.2, 1.21.11, 1.21.10, and 1.21.8. These are examples of listed builds, not a guarantee that every loader is available for each game version; verify the exact file entry before downloading.
Install From The Fog manually
- Choose the exact file. On the From The Fog project page, select a release matching your Minecraft Java version and loader. Read the file description for any dependency or loader-specific note.
- Install the matching mod loader. Install the loader for the same Minecraft version as the mod file, following that loader’s current official instructions. The Fabric installation guide covers setting up Fabric through the Minecraft Launcher; other loaders use their own installation steps.
- Download the mod’s
.jar. Use the file entry for the version and loader you selected. A Java mod file will not install as a Bedrock add-on. - Place the file in that instance’s
modsfolder. For a standard Minecraft directory, Fabric’s guide lists these locations:

If you use a third-party launcher or a separate game profile, its game directory may differ. Put the file in the mods folder belonging to the instance you will actually launch.

- Launch the matching profile. Open the Minecraft Launcher, select the profile for the loader and Minecraft version you installed, and press Play. Confirm the game reaches the main menu with the mod loaded.
Install using the CurseForge app
The CurseForge app is an alternative if you prefer profile management over placing files yourself. On the From The Fog CurseForge page, choose Install, then open the app and add the mod to an existing profile or create a new one. Launch that profile from the app after checking its Minecraft version and loader against the selected From The Fog file. CurseForge describes its app as creating a dedicated modding environment; compatibility still depends on the mod’s version and loader.
The choice is mainly about workflow. With manual installation, you install the loader and choose the instance folder yourself. With the app, profile setup and mod installation are managed within the app. Neither route changes the need to match the release file to the Minecraft version and loader.

Does From The Fog work with Forge or Fabric?
Use whichever loader is named on a From The Fog file that also matches your Minecraft version. The project page has a broad loader listing, but that does not mean every loader is supported for every listed game version. Check the individual file entry before installing; do not try to use a Fabric file in a Forge profile, or vice versa.
If you choose Fabric, Fabric’s documentation notes that most mods require Fabric API. The information available for From The Fog does not establish that every release requires it, so check the dependencies for your exact file rather than assuming. Add a dependency only when the selected release specifies it.

Troubleshoot a missing mod or startup failure
- Confirm the profile. Make sure the launcher is starting the loader profile, not the standard unmodded Minecraft profile.
- Check both version matches. The Minecraft version and loader must match the From The Fog file.
- Check the game directory. Verify that the
.jaris in themodsfolder for the profile you launched, especially when using separate instances or a third-party launcher. - Review dependencies. Look at the exact file’s description for required libraries or loader-specific instructions.
- Use project support if needed. The From The Fog project page links to its official Discord for installation help and technical support.
Where to get a stable release
The project says its latest releases are published on its GitHub release pages, and the CurseForge project page is another project listing. Use a recognized project distribution and verify the chosen file’s version and loader. The project describes stable releases as suitable for general use, while cautioning that they are not guaranteed to be free of bugs or other issues.
