Mewgenics is a turn-based tactics and breeding roguelite: build a team from your house, equip class collars, fight through adventures, then bring cats back into the house’s breeding and progression systems. Early runs get easier when you first improve the information you have about your cats, then organize rooms around clear goals, and finally build a squad whose roles complement one another.
The game’s Steam listing describes a February 10, 2026 release and advertises more than 1,000 abilities and 900 items. Those options reward reading descriptions and testing combinations, not chasing a single universal build. The advice below focuses on the house and combat mechanics described in the available guides; exact behavior can change with updates.
Make the house easier to manage
1. Send kittens to Tink early
PC Gamer recommends sending kittens to Tink early because upgrades reveal useful information about cats, including base stats and inbreeding status. 2. Use Frank to unlock more rooms
PC Gamer recommends using retired cats with Frank to gain rooms. Extra rooms give you more control over which cats share space and where you place furniture, making it easier to separate breeding groups or give a room a specific purpose. The guide does not establish an optimal room count or a required order for every upgrade.

3. Separate kittens from their parents if you want to avoid inbreeding
Cats sharing a room have a chance to breed at the end of a day. If avoiding inbreeding is the goal, move kittens away from their parents rather than relying on chance to keep them apart. Tink’s inbreeding information can help you track family relationships.
4. Give breeding a dedicated room
Keep intended breeding pairs together in one room and concentrate the furniture that supports your breeding goal there. Put cats you do not want included in those pairings elsewhere when possible. This is a practical way to use room assignments and furniture together; it is not a guarantee of a particular litter.

5. Prioritize Stimulation when aiming for stronger kittens
PC Gamer’s guide links room Stimulation to newborn kitten quality, including the likelihood that a kitten inherits the higher parental stat. If you are arranging a room for breeding, favor Stimulation when improving inherited stats is the priority. The guide does not provide a percentage or guarantee for any individual kitten.
6. Adjust Comfort to shape house behavior
The guide says Comfort affects how often cats breed or fight. Treat it as a behavior-related room stat: consider your management goal when choosing furniture, rather than assuming more Comfort is always better for every room.

7. Favor strong base stats over trying to pass down an exact ability
PC Gamer notes that deliberately passing specific abilities through breeding is difficult, and suggests focusing on higher base stats instead. That gives early breeding a more attainable target: select parents for the underlying stats you value, rather than planning around a particular inherited ability.
Plan rooms by their purpose
Room stats can serve different house-management goals. The guide describes Stimulation as relevant to kitten quality; Comfort as affecting breeding or fighting frequency; Health as affecting health and disorder; and Mutation as affecting mutation chance. Appeal is described as applying across the home, while the other listed stats are room-specific. These are distinct levers, so prioritize according to what you want a room to do.

Build a squad around jobs, not a tier list
8. Choose collars for complementary roles
Collars shape a cat’s combat class. The available class guide describes Fighter as melee-focused, Hunter as precision ranged, and Mage as a spellcaster. Think about how each cat’s role fits with the rest of the squad, rather than treating one of these classes as automatically best. The sources do not establish comparable numerical values for range, durability, or damage across these classes, so there is no evidence-based class tier list here. Check the current in-game descriptions when deciding how a particular collar and cat fit your team.

9. Read item and ability text, then look for interactions
The official Steam listing emphasizes tactical positioning, combinations, and environmental interactions. Edmund McMillen has also described the game’s interaction logic as using a broad tag-based system. With hundreds of items and many abilities advertised, inspect tooltips and consider how a choice might work with positioning, the environment, or another effect. 10. Use class progress as a reason to try different approaches
In a pre-release AMA, McMillen said class completion marks would unlock an item or ability, comparing the system to The Binding of Isaac. That statement is useful context for why trying different classes may reveal more options, but it predates release and does not by itself confirm the current unlock rules. What to expect from the game’s scope and content
The Steam listing advertises 1,000-plus unique abilities, including 75 per class, 900-plus items, and a main campaign of more than 200 hours. These are publisher-provided scope claims, not a measured average playtime or a promise that every player will see every option. The page also lists more than 10 classes, but its class-count information is not consistent enough to use as a precise current total.
Steam identifies Edmund McMillen and Tyler Glaiel as developers and lists February 10, 2026 as the release date. Its content description includes blood, dismemberment, scatological humor, and sexual behavior between cats, which the store page says can be disabled in settings.
