Minecraft: Java Edition 1.21.7 was released on June 30, 2025. This hotfix adds the “Lava Chicken” music disc and a new 3×3 painting, updates the data-pack and resource-pack version numbers, and fixes bugs affecting graphics, text, mobs, and more.
What’s new in Minecraft Java 1.21.7?
The Java Team described 1.21.7 as a “hot-as-lava hotfix.” It is a version-specific Java Edition release, not a broad feature update. The official release notes list two additions alongside technical pack-version changes and bug fixes.
“Lava Chicken” music disc
The update adds “Lava Chicken,” a music disc by Hyper Potions. To obtain it, defeat a Baby Zombie riding a Chicken—a mob combination also known as a Chicken Jockey.
New painting
A new 3×3 painting depicting a good boy was added. Artist Sarah Boeving is credited for the painting; the bug-fix list refers to it as “Good boy.”

Data-pack and resource-pack versions
Java 1.21.7 uses data-pack version 81 and resource-pack version 64. These are version identifiers; the release notes do not state a broader compatibility guarantee.
What bugs did Java 1.21.7 fix?
The official notes list 16 issue IDs. The fixes span several areas, including:
- Resource-pack atlas failures and texture corruption.
- Rendering and particle problems on some Qualcomm graphics systems.
- A startup crash on some AMD graphics systems.
- Fog behavior related to blindness and darkness underwater.
- Text rendering issues.
- A happy ghast dismount issue.
- A memory leak.
- Data versioning during force upgrades.
- A server crash involving certain mobs riding a turtle.
The graphics fixes are described as affecting some Qualcomm or AMD systems, not all devices using those graphics. The notes do not quantify affected players or report performance benchmarks. - Open the Minecraft Launcher.
- Click Play.
- Make sure the launcher is set to Latest Release.
