Here’s what was promised, what was actually shown, and what the announcements meant for Minecraft players.
When was Minecraft LIVE in March?
Mojang announced on March 5, 2025, that Minecraft LIVE would broadcast Saturday, March 22, at 1 p.m. ET. The official announcement described it as the next show, six months after the previous one, and said more regular broadcasts were planned. That date and time are historical: the event has since taken place.

Before the broadcast, Minecraft promised a look at activity across the game, never-before-seen game-drop content, developer insights, and news about the wider Minecraft world. It did not publish a complete feature list in advance. The announcement also scheduled The Deep Dig immediately after the main show, with first playthroughs of the new drop, developers, and guests.
What are Minecraft game drops?
Game Drops are Minecraft feature releases that Mojang said it would deliver more frequently, rather than saving all new features for a single large annual update. The official recap put it simply: “We’re releasing more features more frequently. These releases are called ‘Game Drops’.” A drop is a release of new game content; the term alone does not mean every feature arrives on the same day or works identically in Java and Bedrock editions.

What did Minecraft announce at Minecraft LIVE?
The March recap covered several kinds of news: a released game drop, a movie tie-in, a planned graphical update, and a preview of a later drop. The official recap also included an Element Animation segment, celebrity appearances, the return of the Tinies, and the aftershow.
Spring to Life was the first game drop of 2025
Mojang’s recap said Spring to Life would arrive on all platforms on March 25, 2025. It added warm and cold variants of familiar mobs and environmental details such as firefly bushes, falling leaves, and whispers of sand.

For the precise Java Edition feature list, Mojang’s Java Edition 1.21.5 release notes specify warm and cold variants of pigs, cows, and chickens; sheep wool that varies by biome; new wolf sounds; fallen trees; firefly bushes; leaf litter; wildflowers; bushes; short and tall dry grass; cactus flowers; falling-leaf particles; and new ambient sounds in desert and badlands biomes. Those details describe Java 1.21.5. Players should consult the notes for their own edition rather than assume that every item or implementation is identical in Java and Bedrock.
The movie tie-in included a limited-time Bedrock event
Actor Emma Myers introduced an exclusive clip from A Minecraft Movie and an in-game event inspired by the film. The event ran from March 25 through April 7, 2025, on Bedrock Edition platforms, so its advertised window has passed. It required Bedrock Edition, sold separately, and an internet connection. The recap said completing its challenges awarded a cape that unlocked in both editions when used with the same account.

Vibrant Visuals was shown as a planned graphics upgrade
The broadcast offered a first look at Vibrant Visuals, including pixelated shadows and improved water effects. In its March 2025 recap, Mojang said compatible Bedrock devices would receive it first and Java support was planned for the future. That was the schedule described at the time, not a statement of the current rollout status.
A later drop introduced three ghast forms
The show previewed a second 2025 drop featuring the dried ghast, ghastling, and happy ghast. In the recap’s description, players hydrate a dried ghast to get a ghastling, which eventually grows into a happy ghast. A harness lets players ride the happy ghast, fly with up to three friends aboard, and build from its back. The show also mentioned the Player Locator bar, which was already in testing when the recap was published.

The Deep Dig tried out the new content
The aftershow demonstrated Spring to Life features, rode a happy ghast, and played a challenge from the movie event. It was a follow-on segment to the main broadcast, not a separate announcement of a new game edition.
