Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteThe “Could not connect: Outdated server!” message is a Bedrock connection status. Start by checking whether your game and the server or world you’re joining use compatible Minecraft versions and release channels. The message alone does not identify the specific cause, so confirm those details before trying unrelated network fixes.
What the “Outdated server” error means
Minecraft’s Bedrock protocol lists both “Could not connect: Outdated server!” and the paired “Could not connect: Outdated client!” status messages. That confirms the wording is a Bedrock disconnection status, but it does not explain why a particular connection failed. The text alone cannot tell you which side needs attention or reveal every detail of the server configuration. Check the Bedrock 1.21.111 protocol reference.
Check the game and server versions first
- Note the exact error and your setup. Record the full wording, Minecraft edition and platform you’re using.
- Check your installed game version and release channel. Confirm whether you’re using a regular release or a Preview/beta build.
- Ask the server owner what they run. Get the server’s version and release channel, then compare them with your client. The error does not disclose those details.
Version-channel mismatches can be worth checking: in a July 21, 2023 Minecraft Forum post, one player reported that their Preview server and regular-release client did not match; they said switching to the current release server software resolved their case. This is one historical report, not a guaranteed fix for other players. Read the forum report.
If you own the Bedrock server
For a self-hosted Bedrock world, use Minecraft’s official Bedrock Dedicated Server download page for the server package and setup instructions. Check Minecraft’s official release changelogs for notes relevant to the release you’re using. A changelog describes that release; it does not establish which version is installed on your device or server.

If you’re joining a Realm
Ask the Realm owner to check its version and release information, and consult current official support and release notes. The sources cited here do not establish a universal Realm update delay, so there is no reliable wait period to recommend.

Before reinstalling the game or changing network settings, gather the details needed to narrow down the problem:
- Platform and Minecraft edition
- Exact client version and whether it is Preview/beta or a regular release
- Server or Realm type, version and release channel, if the owner can provide them
- The exact error text
The available information does not establish reinstalling or changing network settings as the appropriate first response to this particular message.
