Minecraft Bedrock 1.21.20 was released on August 13, 2024, as a quality-of-life and bug-fix update—not a new themed content drop. Its changes span world stability, gameplay, mobs, building, Wind Charges and creator tools. It is a historical release, not the current Bedrock version.

Read Mojang’s official Minecraft Bedrock 1.21.20 release notes for the complete change list.

What changed in Minecraft Bedrock 1.21.20?

The update focused on fixes and adjustments across the game. The most consequential changes address downloads and legacy worlds, correct several combat and movement behaviors, and bring player-fired Wind Charges up to Java Edition speed.

Stability and world handling

  • Fixed content downloads that could remain at 0% and problems applying content updates.
  • Fixed item and block corruption when converting legacy Console Edition worlds, and edge chunks in legacy worlds that failed to render.
  • Fixed an occasional crash on Amazon devices when joining a world.
  • Marketplace content is imported before a world is created or started.

Gameplay and world generation

  • Chunk environments no longer noticeably change when players are far from spawn.
  • Trial Chambers generate much less often in the Deep Dark.
  • Jumping preserves more of the upward velocity from a Wind Burst explosion.
  • Vault loot now depends on the level, position and player seed.
  • Players are protected from damage while a world loads or while transferring dimensions.
  • Fixed a brief, one-tick crawl state when approaching a bed with 1.5 blocks of clearance.
  • Area Effect Clouds no longer shrink when entered by entities immune to their effect.
  • Heavy Core step sounds are controlled by the appropriate audio slider.

Mobs

  • The Bogged no longer applies Slowness with its underwater melee attack or levitates while riding a boat, raft or minecart. Parrots also imitate the Bogged correctly.
  • Witches always drop 4–8 Redstone Dust; the notes say this supports Witch Hut Redstone farms.
  • Drowned spawn individually in rivers and can also spawn in dripstone-cave aquifers.
  • Wolves, Bears and Pandas try to avoid environmental dangers after taking damage.
  • Consumed Pufferfish now inflicts Nausea I instead of Nausea II.
  • Other fixes address split-screen mob animations, a Breeze getting stuck under a roof, Zoglin chase sounds, Bees taking drowning damage after one second underwater, and mounts or vehicles gaining slight velocity when dismounted.
  • Entities that fail to load because content is missing are preserved and can reappear if that content returns.

Blocks, building and items

  • Fixed continuous slab and stair placement behavior, along with visuals and positioning for leaves, banners, quartz slabs, Sunflowers and Heavy Cores.
  • Doors made from different materials can form a double door. Copper Doors now follow the intended Stone Pickaxe-or-better drop rule.
  • Other fixes cover Creative-mode door mining, stonecutter slab output, Quartz Bricks crafting output, mushroom stems and drops, Trail Ruins anvils, Redstone-activated trapdoors and fence gates, and double plants in older worlds.
  • The Crafter’s sound distance and Trial Spawner texture inconsistencies were corrected.

Wind Charges, weapons and movement

  • Player-fired Wind Charges travel 50% faster, bringing their speed into parity with Java Edition.
  • Wind Charge Projectiles can be summoned with /summon. The Breeze’s Wind Charge respects the Mob Griefing setting, and mounted entities are no longer immune to its damage.
  • Further fixes address terrain interaction, crouching, knockback, upward launch, launch position, projectile rendering, latency-related fall damage and repeated-landing fall protection.
  • Riptide now correctly cancels Wind Charge fall-damage reduction. The update also fixes excessive damage and related Mace interactions.
  • Other item fixes include Breeze Rod rendering, fishing-rod hooks, Locator Maps, boat leads, item icons, banner-pattern rarity colors, Trident/Mace/Heavy Core rarity coloring, banner recipe-book access and Wolf Armor particles.

Audio, Realms, accessibility and interface

The patch includes sound and audio-routing adjustments, fixes for Realms buttons and Stories, and improved add-on displays in Realms. It also addresses Apple Pencil input, improves narration of invitation and help text, and adjusts iOS touch controls. Additional fixes affect the HUD and rendering, including absorption hearts and the Turtle Helmet water-breathing icon.

What creators should know

The creator-facing notes include experimental third-person camera options, such as a follow-orbit preset and a focus-target camera experiment. They also cover components, commands, entity behavior, rendering, item definitions, geometry validation and structure blocks. Some changes depend on experimental toggles or specific format versions, so creators should check the original notes against their pack’s format and settings before making changes.
