When did Chase the Skies and Vibrant Visuals launch?
Mojang released both on June 17, 2025. The update does not require a separate purchase if you already own the relevant Minecraft edition; Mojang sells the editions separately. Mojang’s launch announcement confirms the date and availability.

What does each edition get?

Which devices support Vibrant Visuals?
Mojang lists Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Android, iOS, and PC running Minecraft on DirectX 12 (DX12) among the supported platforms. Mobile devices must also meet the listed hardware minimums:

These are Mojang’s published requirements; support is not guaranteed for every device in a listed platform category. Check Mojang’s Vibrant Visuals announcement for its platform and compatibility details.
How to turn on Vibrant Visuals
- Update Minecraft to the latest version.
- Open the game’s Video settings and find Graphics Mode.
- Select Vibrant Visuals if it is available on your device. Some Xbox One, Xbox One S, PlayStation 4, and Android users need to select it manually in this menu.
Mojang warns that performance may degrade on those older or lower-powered devices. If Vibrant Visuals is not offered, the device may not meet the compatibility requirements.

What are the gameplay and multiplayer limitations?
Worlds and resource content
At launch, Marketplace add-ons, skins, and persona items worked with Vibrant Visuals. Worlds and texture packs did not. This compatibility information describes the launch state reported by Mojang, so it should not be read as a guarantee about later content updates.
Split-screen and local multiplayer
Split-screen does not support Vibrant Visuals. In local multiplayer, Minecraft switches rendering to Fancy or Simple.

Realms and gameplay
Mojang says Vibrant Visuals does not affect gameplay, so players can use it in Realms with friends who leave the mode off. It changes presentation rather than game rules or player abilities.

Vibrant Visuals changes how Minecraft renders scenes, with reflective water, volumetric lighting, enhanced textures, fog, and altered lighting and shadows. Mojang’s published descriptions do not provide a numeric frame-rate benchmark or quantified performance comparison, so the visual upgrade should not be taken to mean a guaranteed performance improvement. Device performance can vary, and Mojang specifically cautions that it may degrade on some Xbox One, Xbox One S, PlayStation 4, and Android devices.
