What Minecraft error code Drowned means
Minecraft Help explains that “The Drowned error means there was a problem signing in to your Microsoft account.” The message identifies a sign-in failure, but does not establish why it happened. It is not, by itself, evidence that your computer, console, network equipment, or Minecraft purchase has failed. The guidance here is for Bedrock Edition; do not treat Drowned as a diagnosis for Java Edition session errors or general multiplayer connection problems.

How to fix the Drowned error
- Reset the Minecraft sign-in session. Follow Minecraft Help’s Reset Your Microsoft Account Sign-in in Minecraft instructions. This is the first step in its Drowned-specific troubleshooting.
- Update Bedrock Edition. Install the latest version available for your device, using the platform-specific update instructions linked from Minecraft’s Drowned troubleshooting page. The steps vary across mobile, console, and PC.
- Check the platform’s service status. Use the status link for the service relevant to your device—Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo, Apple, or Google Play—from the same Minecraft Help article. If that service is experiencing an outage, wait for it to recover before trying to sign in again.
- Change your Microsoft-account password if the earlier steps fail. Minecraft recommends this to force a fresh sign-in. It is a recommended next step, not a guarantee that every sign-in issue will be resolved.
Check which account Minecraft is using
Windows
Minecraft’s Microsoft account guide says the Windows version automatically uses the gamertag associated with the account that purchased the game through the Windows Store. If Minecraft is picking up the wrong gamertag, sign out of the Xbox app, sign back in with the intended account, then restart Minecraft if it still shows the wrong one. This helps distinguish an account-selection mix-up from a general sign-in failure.
PlayStation and Nintendo Switch
On PlayStation and Nintendo Switch, Microsoft-account sign-in uses a code displayed in Minecraft and a separate browser or device flow. Complete that flow with the Microsoft account you intend to use. A Microsoft account itself is free, but online play on these consoles may also require the relevant platform subscription; check the current PlayStation or Nintendo requirements for your region.

What not to try first
Minecraft’s Drowned-specific steps focus on the account session, game version, platform service availability, and refreshing credentials. The cited guidance does not establish reinstalling the game, clearing saved data, changing DNS, buying hardware, or using a third-party utility as fixes for this error. Avoid making those changes based on the code alone.
