A Minecraft tunnel bore is a moving machine that clears blocks as it advances, often using TNT. There is no single layout that works across every edition and version: Java and Bedrock handle flying-machine mechanics differently, and the available sources do not establish a complete, current schematic with verified materials and build steps. To build one reliably, first choose a design made for your exact edition and version, then follow its instructions rather than adapting a different schematic by guesswork.
What a Minecraft tunnel bore does
A tunnel bore combines a movement system with a way to remove blocks in front of it. Many designs use TNT for clearing; a TNT-cannon tutorial describes a “duper cannon” as a cannon that uses duplication bugs to supply TNT. That is one possible supply method, not a universal feature of tunnel bores. A bore might instead require dispensers or manually supplied TNT, depending on its design.
The movement system often draws on flying-machine mechanics: pistons move a structure carrying components such as slime blocks, honey blocks, observers, and redstone blocks. Those general mechanics explain how a bore can advance, but they do not provide the precise block placement, timing, or TNT arrangement needed to reproduce a particular machine.
Choose a design for your edition and version
Before gathering blocks, identify whether you play Java Edition or Bedrock Edition and note the game version. The Minecraft Wiki’s flying-machine guide says, “The mechanics of such machines vary slightly between the Java and Bedrock Editions of Minecraft; This guide covers Java Edition and Bedrock Edition in separate sections.” The distinction matters because piston behavior affects which flying-machine layouts work. Bedrock designs are more restricted in this respect, and a Java TNT-duplication mechanism should not be treated as a Bedrock feature.

Look for a tutorial or schematic that explicitly names its target edition and version. Check that the described TNT supply method matches the machine you intend to build, and verify that the design’s piston and flying-machine behavior is compatible with your release. A tutorial that only says “Minecraft” without specifying edition and version may not give enough information to reproduce the build safely.
Mechanics that constrain the design
Piston movement limit
The Minecraft Wiki flying-machine guide states that a piston can push or pull up to 12 blocks. That limit constrains the blocks a moving assembly can carry; it does not mean every 12-block structure will function as a flying machine. A tunnel-bore schematic must account for its movable blocks and the way its pistons actuate.

Slime and honey block behavior
Slime and honey blocks can carry adjacent blocks when moved, but they do not stick to each other, according to the same guide. Their placement therefore affects which parts of a bore move together. Use the chosen design’s exact layout rather than substituting one sticky block for another or assuming all adjacent parts will travel as a single assembly.
Edition-specific flying machines
Flying machines rely on the interaction of pistons and movable components, and those interactions differ between Java and Bedrock. The general mechanics are useful for understanding a schematic, but they are not a substitute for one tested against the target edition and version.

Read how the design supplies TNT before building. A TNT duper relies on duplication bugs and is version-sensitive; a design using dispensers or manually supplied TNT has different requirements. The tutorial should say which method it uses and which edition and version it targets. Do not assume a bore duplicates TNT just because another TNT cannon does.

Why there is no reliable universal step-by-step build here
A reproducible build needs a named design, its complete materials list, dimensions, exact placement sequence, and a target edition and version. The available sources do not establish a current tunnel-bore schematic with those details, so providing block-by-block instructions would risk inventing a layout that fails in the reader’s game. Use a version-specific tutorial for the actual construction sequence, and treat general flying-machine explanations as background rather than as a blueprint.
