Planet Earth III: Perspectives is a free Minecraft world announced on January 16, 2024, that lets players take on animal roles in linked survival scenarios. It was announced for Minecraft Education and the Minecraft Marketplace on Bedrock Edition; the compatible game edition is separate. The release date is established, but the available sources do not establish that it is still Minecraft’s latest DLC.
What is Planet Earth III: Perspectives?
Inspired by the BBC Studios Natural History Unit series Planet Earth III and created in partnership with BBC Earth, the Minecraft world turns wildlife encounters into playable scenarios. Minecraft identifies community creator Shapescape as its creator. Rather than playing only as a human observer, you experience predator-and-prey encounters and relationships between parents, offspring, friends, and allies.

Minecraft announced the world on January 16, 2024, as free in Minecraft Education and on the Bedrock Edition Marketplace. That describes the world’s launch pricing, not the cost of the game edition needed to access it. Minecraft’s announcement has the release details.
Can you play as different animals?
Yes. Activities assign animal roles with different survival goals. The examples below are described in Minecraft’s announcement; they are scenarios in the world, not evidence that every animal is freely selectable throughout the experience.

What happens in the Field Station hub?
The BBC Planet Earth Field Station connects the activities and gives players a place to explore between them. Minecraft says players can select biomes and activities, track completed activities, learn about featured animals, use sound boards, and replay activities or watch their cinematics again. Completing activities also earns decorative hub rewards, including trophies and clothing items.
Minecraft advertised a free Great White Shark Character Creator item for the Dressing Room alongside the 2024 launch. That is a launch-era offer; its present availability is not established.

How do you access the world?
The two access routes announced by Minecraft require different editions. The world was announced as free, but the compatible game edition may need to be obtained separately.
- Bedrock Edition: Find the world through the Minecraft Marketplace for Bedrock Edition. Minecraft’s trailer says the latest Minecraft: Bedrock Edition is sold separately.
- Minecraft Education: The trailer also names Minecraft: Education Edition as an access route, available separately.
These are the stated launch routes, not a guarantee of today’s Marketplace listing or exact current version compatibility. Check the relevant edition and Marketplace listing before obtaining the world. The official Minecraft trailer states the edition requirement.

What educational materials are available?
Minecraft Education says the experience is available to its users in 29 languages and links to free curriculum materials, including lesson plans and discussion guides. Its launch blog also names teaching PowerPoints and animal factsheets. These are accompanying classroom resources; the cited materials do not establish measured learning outcomes.
