Minecraft’s graphics overhaul is called Vibrant Visuals, but the testing status depends on the edition. Bedrock players can use Vibrant Visuals on compatible devices. Java players can test Vulkan rendering in snapshots—the technical groundwork Mojang says it is building toward Vibrant Visuals, not confirmation that the complete visual overhaul is already available in Java.

What is available to test in Java?

Mojang began testing Vulkan rendering in Java snapshots with 26.2 Snapshot 1 on April 7, 2026. The snapshot adds a Graphics API option in Video Settings, allowing players to select the renderer. Mojang describes Vulkan as a major step toward bringing Vibrant Visuals to Java.

This is a renderer test, not proof that the full Vibrant Visuals feature set has shipped in Java. Mojang’s roadmap describes separating gameplay and rendering code and modernizing the rendering pipeline as groundwork for future visual and performance improvements. Its February 2026 article said: “We’re aiming to bring Vulkan into snapshot testing to start collating feedback sometime over the summer.” The April snapshot announcement confirmed the test began; Mojang has not provided a firm date for ending it or shipping the complete Java visual feature set.

How to try Vulkan in a Java snapshot

  1. Protect your saves. Back up worlds before opening them in a snapshot, or use a separate game folder. Mojang warns that testing versions can corrupt worlds.
  2. Enable snapshots in the Minecraft Launcher. Open the Installations tab and enable snapshots.
  3. Install a snapshot. Select and install the snapshot you want to try. Snapshot availability changes, so check the Launcher and current official snapshot notes for a build that includes Vulkan.
  4. Select the graphics API. In the snapshot, open Options and then Video Settings; use Graphics API to choose the renderer.

These instructions describe the Java snapshot test. The official sources do not establish which snapshot is the latest on October 8, 2026, or whether every current build still offers the Vulkan option. The latest dated status point confirmed here is 26.3 Snapshot 10, published August 25, 2026; check newer notes before choosing a build.

What Vibrant Visuals changes

Mojang describes Vibrant Visuals as a cosmetic refresh featuring moving shadows, reflective water, atmospheric lighting and fog, and enhanced textures. It does not change gameplay. The Java Vulkan work is intended to modernize rendering and prepare for these kinds of visual improvements, while Mojang evaluates compatibility, stability, and performance across devices—including less common GPUs and older drivers. No measured Java performance gains are established in the official sources cited here.

Is Vibrant Visuals available on Bedrock?

Yes. Mojang lists Vibrant Visuals as a released graphics mode for compatible Bedrock devices. Supported platforms listed on its Vibrant Visuals page are Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Android, iOS, and PC running Minecraft on DX12.

Listed mobile requirements

  • Android: Adreno 640, Mali-G68, Mali-G77, or Xclipse 530, or higher.
  • iOS: A12 or M1, or higher.

These are Mojang’s listed Bedrock requirements; they are not Java Vulkan requirements. Compatibility details may change, so consult Mojang’s current platform list before troubleshooting a device.

Bedrock Vibrant Visuals is a released graphics mode on compatible devices. Use a supported Bedrock platform and check the in-game graphics settings. Mojang lists supported consoles, DX12 PC, and mobile GPU baselines on its Vibrant Visuals page.

A 2025 Bedrock preview article describes enabling a Vibrant Visuals toggle in a world’s Experimental tab during that earlier preview: Bedrock Vibrant Visuals preview. That historical beta/preview method is not the way to enable Java’s Vulkan snapshot test.
