Merlin Entertainments and Mojang Studios describe it as a Minecraft-themed land inside the existing park—not a standalone theme park. Their announcement outlines a new coaster, interactive adventures, block-built playscapes, themed shopping and dining. The official material reviewed confirms the year, but not an opening day. Merlin’s announcement presents concept art as a look at the planned design, rather than a guarantee that every pictured detail will be built exactly as shown.
Where is Minecraft World, and when is it opening?
The planned location is Chessington World of Adventures in Greater London, UK. Merlin and Mojang announced a 2027 opening, but their official updates do not give a specific date. Chessington is an existing theme park; Minecraft World is being developed as a themed land within it. Merlin calls it the first fully immersive Minecraft theme park land. Read the announcement from Merlin Entertainments.
Merlin’s announcement says Chessington is 35 minutes from London Waterloo by direct train. That is the travel time stated by Merlin, not a guarantee for every journey; check current routes and service before planning a visit.
What does the Minecraft World concept art show?
The announced design takes inspiration from Minecraft biomes, mobs and items, translating the game’s block-based world into a physical attraction. Merlin and Mojang describe a mix of rides, interactive experiences and spaces to play. Treat the images as concept art: they illustrate the announced design direction, not a final construction plan for every visible feature. Merlin’s release includes downloadable images.

How the £50 million project fits Merlin’s wider Minecraft partnership
Merlin valued the Chessington Minecraft World project at £50 million in its 2026 announcement. That figure is separate from the more than £85 million (US$110 million) Merlin said in 2024 it would initially invest in the first two attractions under its wider Mojang partnership, with projects planned in the US and UK. The two amounts describe different scopes, so they should not be added together. Merlin’s 2024 partnership announcement gives the broader context.
