Minecraft’s Mounts of Mayhem drop, released December 9, 2025, added a tiered spear and the rideable Nautilus to Java and Bedrock editions. The spear offers jab and charge attacks; the Nautilus helps riders move underwater and pauses their oxygen consumption while mounted.
How the spear works
The spear is a tiered weapon available in wood, copper, iron, gold, diamond, and netherite versions. Mojang describes it as suited to both close and mounted combat. Its two attacks serve different purposes:
- Jab: A close-range attack. The Lunge enchantment gives the player a burst of speed when using it.
- Charge: A forward attack whose damage depends on the spear’s material, the player’s view angle, and the velocity of both the player and the target. Speed matters, but it is not the only factor.
That makes the charge attack sensitive to positioning and movement on both sides of an encounter, rather than a simple damage bonus for running quickly. Mojang’s feature overview describes the spear’s attacks and Lunge enchantment; the Java Edition 1.21.11 notes specify the charge-damage factors.
What the Nautilus does underwater
The Nautilus is a neutral aquatic mob found in ocean biomes. In the Java Edition 1.21.11 notes, Mojang says players can tame and breed Nautiluses using pufferfish or a bucket of pufferfish. A tamed Nautilus can be fitted with a saddle and ridden.

Riding one provides two distinct benefits: an underwater speed boost and the Breath of the Nautilus effect. That effect pauses oxygen consumption; it does not refill the oxygen bar. The distinction matters if you begin a ride with little oxygen remaining: the mount preserves what you have rather than restoring it. These mechanics are detailed in the Java Edition notes, while Mojang’s feature overview also highlights the speed boost.
