Start with Diablo IV’s Low graphics preset. Blizzard’s current minimum Windows target is 1080p output with the game rendered at 720p, Low settings, and 30 fps; it calls for 8 GB of RAM, a GTX 660 or Radeon R9 280, and an SSD with 90 GB available. These are Blizzard’s stated targets, not a guarantee that every similarly equipped PC will perform the same. If play is still too slow, lower the render resolution percentage, then reduce texture and shadow quality if memory is tight.
Start with the settings Blizzard recommends for minimum hardware
Blizzard’s current minimum requirements for Windows describe this target: 1080p native output, 720p render resolution, Low graphics settings, and 30 fps. The listed minimum hardware is an Intel Core i5-2500K or AMD FX-8350, 8 GB RAM, and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 or AMD Radeon R9 280. The system also needs Windows 10 64-bit version 1909 or newer, DirectX 12, broadband internet, and an SSD with 90 GB available. Blizzard notes that requirements can change. See Blizzard’s current Diablo IV system requirements.
Blizzard says PCs below the minimum specifications may still attempt to run the game, but the experience may be significantly diminished. That is not a promise of acceptable performance. Its listed tiers are useful context, but they are vendor targets rather than independent test results or guarantees for every PC with equivalent parts.
Change settings in the order that best matches your problem
- Select the Low preset. Diablo IV offers Low, Medium, High, and Ultra presets and automatically selects a compatible setting for a PC. If performance is your priority, start at Low rather than assuming the automatic selection is optimal for your needs.
- Lower Resolution Percentage if the game remains slow. This reduces the resolution at which the game renders internally, which can improve frame rate but makes the image blurrier. Raise it only if you have performance headroom and want a sharper image; rendering more pixels uses more memory and can reduce performance.
- Lower Texture Quality and Shadow Quality if memory is tight. Blizzard specifically recommends reducing both when memory is a concern. Lower textures use less memory but look softer; lower shadows can improve performance and reduce memory use, but make shadows less sharp.
- Adjust one setting at a time. Play through the same kind of scene after each change and keep the setting only if the trade-off is worthwhile on your system. This helps distinguish a useful change from one that merely makes the image less detailed.
Blizzard also identifies Geometry Complexity as a setting that can affect memory use; it says most other options have little or no memory impact. Its graphics guidance explains that the engine can lower asset detail, shaders, visual effects, and post effects to match a device. Read Blizzard’s graphics settings explanation.

Check resolution scaling before changing it manually
As of patch 2.1.4, dated March 18, 2025, Diablo IV enables resolution scaling by default and chooses a scaling method according to hardware configuration. Check which method the game selected and use only options supported by your PC; do not assume every system has the same upscaling or frame-generation features. The patch also added Intel XeLL and XeSS Frame Generation support for PC users who meet the hardware requirements. See the March 18, 2025 patch notes.
Use Blizzard’s hardware tiers to judge whether settings are enough
| Blizzard tier | Stated target | Listed processor, memory, and graphics | Storage |
|---|---|---|---|
| Minimum | 1080p native output / 720p render, Low, 30 fps | Intel Core i5-2500K or AMD FX-8350; 8 GB RAM; GTX 660 or Radeon R9 280 | SSD with 90 GB available |
| Medium | 1080p, Medium, 60 fps | Intel Core i5-4670K or Ryzen 3 1300X; 16 GB RAM; GTX 970 or RX 470 | SSD with 90 GB available |
| High | 1080p, High, 60 fps | Intel Core i7-8700K or Ryzen 7 2700X; 16 GB RAM; RTX 2060 or RX 5700 XT | SSD with 90 GB available |
| Ultra 4K | 4K, Ultra, 60 fps | 32 GB RAM; RTX 3080 (RTX 40 Series for fully supported DLSS 3) or RX 6800 XT; see Blizzard’s requirements for the listed processor | SSD with 90 GB available |
These are Blizzard’s published Windows targets, not measured results. A named component alone does not establish how a particular system will perform: CPU, GPU, memory, resolution, cooling, and other configuration details all matter. Compare your complete PC against the official requirements before deciding whether lower settings are likely to be enough.

When a hardware upgrade is more relevant than another setting change
If the PC still uses an HDD
Blizzard lists an SSD with 90 GB available even at minimum and warns that using an HDD may significantly diminish the experience. Moving the game to an SSD is therefore a relevant fix if the system currently uses an HDD or lacks the required free space, but it does not guarantee higher frame rates or resolve a CPU or GPU bottleneck. Before buying a drive, check your PC’s supported interface, physical form factor, and available slot or cable.
If RAM or the graphics card is below the target
Blizzard’s minimum tier specifies 8 GB RAM and a GTX 660 or Radeon R9 280; its Medium tier specifies 16 GB RAM and a GTX 970 or RX 470. These comparisons can help identify a substantial gap, but they do not determine which upgrade will fit your system. Check motherboard support and memory type for RAM, and case clearance and power requirements for a graphics card before choosing parts.

What to provide for a tailored settings recommendation
There is no universal custom profile that guarantees stable performance on every low-end PC. To narrow down what to change, note your CPU, GPU, installed RAM, display resolution, and whether the game is installed on an SSD or HDD. Those details let you compare the PC with Blizzard’s tiers and prioritize a likely limitation without inventing an FPS estimate.
