If a relic in Mortal Kombat 1 will not equip or disappears after you leave the character screen, there is no confirmed universal fix in the available WB Games notes. You can try a few historical player-reported workarounds, but treat them as unverified. If the problem continues, report it to WB Games Support.
Try these steps in order

Exit and re-enter Invasions
If the relic looks equipped but vanishes when you leave the character screen, exit Invasions and enter it again. A Steam Community player said this cleared an older season-transition issue, but that single report does not establish a reliable fix for current versions. Read the Steam Community discussion.

Consider the reported progression workaround
One Reddit participant said relics became equippable after defeating the Nitara Invasions boss. This is an anecdotal report, not an official requirement or guaranteed solution. Read the Reddit discussion.

Try using relics on one fighter at a time
Another participant in that Reddit discussion said limiting relic use to one fighter at a time seemed to help. The report does not confirm why it helped or whether it applies to other players.

Check for updates and hotfixes
Make sure the game has received the latest update and available hotfix for your platform. WB Games’ September update notes describe a general issue that could prevent some Invasions sessions from using the latest hotfix data. They do not say that a relic-equipping bug was fixed. Contact WB Games Support if the issue persists
Submit a report through WB Games Support. Include your platform, game version, what happens when you equip a relic, and whether it remains equipped after leaving the character screen. WB Games also provides information there about submitting console bug reports.

What the official notes confirm
WB Games’ June update notes say, “Increased inventory slots for Talismans & Relics.” That is an inventory-capacity change, not confirmation that a relic that will not equip or persist was fixed. The September notes’ hotfix-delivery change is also general and does not establish a relic-specific resolution. Read the June update notes.
The player reports cited above date from 2023. They establish that some players encountered similar symptoms and described workarounds, but not whether the defect remains present, which platforms it affects, or whether those steps work on current versions.
