If your infantry aim feels faster horizontally while moving than it does while standing still in Battlefield 1942, the likely game-specific fix is BF42Plus’s optional correctedLookSensitivity setting. First check the game’s normal mouse sensitivity setting; use the BF42Plus workaround only if your symptom matches that movement-dependent difference.
Check whether movement changes your infantry aim
On foot, compare horizontal mouse aim while standing still with aim while moving forward and while strafing. BF42Plus’s documentation describes a specific discrepancy: horizontal look sensitivity is higher during movement than while standing. A player report describes the same pattern as sensitivity doubling while moving, but that is an individual report—not a measurement that applies to every player.
This comparison helps distinguish the documented behavior from a mouse problem. The available sources do not establish that unrelated symptoms such as stutter, general acceleration, or inconsistent input have the same cause.
Adjust the game’s ordinary mouse sensitivity first
If your aim is simply too fast or too slow in all situations, start with the game’s own sensitivity controls. The official Battlefield 1942 manual documents customizable mouse and keyboard sensitivity settings. It does not give a universal numeric target or describe the standing-versus-moving infantry discrepancy.

Try BF42Plus’s optional sensitivity workaround
BF42Plus is a community patch collection, not an official EA patch. Its project page describes correctedLookSensitivity as an optional fix for higher mouse sensitivity while moving. The release notes provide two ways to enable it:
- Open the game console and enter
plus.correctedLookSensitivity 1. - Alternatively, enable the setting in
bf42plus.ini. The project README says this file is created automatically after the first launch; optional settings are documented there.
The project source explains that the workaround halves horizontal look input while the player moves forward or strafes. It attributes the discrepancy to a bug in BFSoldier::handlePlayerInput, but the maintainer has said it may be a bug or an intentional feature. The code comments explain that a direct change to the game logic could cause server desynchronization, so this setting uses a workaround instead. These are the project author’s explanations, not results from an independent controlled test.

Retune infantry aim after enabling the setting
Test standing, forward movement, and strafing again after enabling the option. Because the workaround changes horizontal look sensitivity during movement, the existing infantry sensitivity may no longer feel right. The maintainer specifically cautions that players may need to readjust it.
The option is described as optional in the cited project documentation. That documentation does not establish compatibility across every operating system, game distribution, or server configuration, so do not assume universal compatibility.

If the symptom does not match
If sensitivity does not differ between standing and moving on foot, the evidence here does not establish another Battlefield 1942-specific cause. Before replacing hardware, narrow down the issue by noting your operating system, game build, mouse model, and whether the same problem occurs in other applications. The documented movement-dependent discrepancy points to a game-side software workaround, not a supported reason to buy a new mouse, mouse pad, or replacement parts.
