Yes—but only in a specific historical comparison. In October 2024, HotHardware reported a Steam peak of 463,798 concurrent players for the free Monster Hunter Wilds beta, compared with 306,460 for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 at the time. Those figures do not establish which game has more players now. The same report tested an early beta build in a demanding encampment scene and recorded a 33.9 FPS one-percent score on a Ryzen 7 3700X. So, how does Monster Hunter Wilds benchmark on PC? The short answer is that this was a CPU-focused beta stress test, not a measure of current retail-game performance on every PC.
What did “slays Black Ops 6 on Steam” mean?
HotHardware’s October 2024 comparison put the Wilds beta’s reported Steam peak at 463,798 concurrent players and Black Ops 6’s peak at 306,460. That is a comparison of reported peak concurrency at that time—not sales, total players, or a live ranking.
The Wilds number belongs to its free beta, not the full game’s current Steam audience. The figures should therefore be read as a snapshot of attention during the 2024 beta period. The sources cited here do not establish either game’s current Steam player count.
How did Monster Hunter Wilds benchmark on PC?
HotHardware tested a beta build in the post-story encampment, which it described as the test’s most CPU-taxing area. With a Ryzen 7 3700X, the report recorded a 33.9 FPS one-percent score. That is a low-percentile performance result for a particular system, location, build, and test—not an average frame rate or a universal prediction for the game.

Why use an RTX 4080 for a CPU test?
The test paired the processor with a GeForce RTX 4080 and ran at native 1080p on the Ultra preset. HotHardware chose that setup to reduce the chance that the graphics card would be the limiting factor, making it easier to observe CPU performance. It does not mean an RTX 4080 is required or recommended to play Wilds.
The result is best understood as a historical stress-case observation: an early beta, an especially demanding scene, and a setup intended to expose CPU limits. It cannot stand in for a broad benchmark covering different areas, graphics cards, settings, or the finished game.

Can my PC run either game?
Requirements can help assess compatibility, but they are not performance comparisons. Activision’s desktop minimum specification for Black Ops 6 lists a Ryzen 5 1400 or Intel Core i5-6600, 8 GB of RAM, and an SSD with 102 GB available at launch; Activision warns that specifications may change. See the official Black Ops 6 PC system requirements.
A minimum specification does not promise a particular frame rate, and it cannot be compared directly with HotHardware’s beta benchmark. The sources here do not provide a matched current test or a complete, directly comparable requirements analysis for both games. For Wilds, the 2024 beta result alone cannot tell you how your specific PC performs in the current retail game.

Why the beta result is not a current benchmark
Game performance can change with patches, drivers, settings, and test conditions. Windows Central reported a PC update for Wilds on January 27, 2026, and summarized player reports of smoother play. Those reports are useful context, but they are not a controlled benchmark and do not replace measurements on a disclosed system.
A fair current comparison would test both games on the same PC, using clearly identified builds and patch dates, equivalent resolutions and presets, comparable scenes, and disclosed CPU and GPU configurations. It would also report average and low-percentile frame rates and state whether upscaling or frame generation was enabled. The sources cited here do not provide that post-update comparison.
What happened after the beta?
Monster Hunter Wilds launched on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. CAPCOM said its March 31, 2025 announcement that the game introduced crossplay for the series and had a simultaneous release on those platforms. The company later reported more than 10 million units sold worldwide in the first month. That sales figure covers units across platforms; it is not a Steam player count.
