Yes, but the 2024 guide presents it as a niche group choice rather than the top damage option. Its listed SnS damage setup uses Upheaval, Whirling Blade, and Defender’s Resolve. It identifies situations where SnS damage may fit the group: the tank is not providing Leadership, or the group is running four DPS. The trade-off is lower damage than meta DPS weapons, according to that guide.
Consider this path when the group composition makes the utility or contribution worthwhile, not as a general recommendation for maximizing damage.

What should you pair with Sword and Shield in PvP?
Use SnS to start the engagement: mobility helps you access a target, and crowd control creates the opening. Then swap to the partner weapon for burst or broader pressure. The 2024 guide describes two broad approaches:
Dive assassin: isolate and lock down a target
The guide’s Greatsword assassin example takes Leaping Strike, Shield Bash, and Shield Rush or Upheaval on SnS, then uses Greatsword pressure after initiating. The aim is single-target lockdown against a backline target, with an escape plan rather than an all-in with no way out.

Across both styles, the partner weapon’s job matters as much as the SnS opener: choose it for the damage, AoE, or control you want after the target is engaged.

Attributes, shield use, and balance context
A 2024 Fextralife video description says Sword and Shield scale with Strength and Dexterity, with Strength providing the greater benefit. It also notes that the Defender skill tree is unavailable when using the sword without the shield. How current is this build?

Official updates establish that New World: Aeternum received content through Season 10, its final content release; they do not provide current SnS ability rankings or a replacement gear list. Amazon Games says the game was delisted on January 15, 2026, and that previously purchased players can continue playing until the servers shut down on January 31, 2027.
