What the free version 2.00 update added
SEGA’s November 27, 2024 announcement and official patch history identify additions across Battle and Adventure, plus quality-of-life changes.
Knuckle Fight adds a punch-based Battle rule
In Knuckle Fight, players use gloves to hit opponents and earn points. Knocking another player out of the stage earns additional points. It is a new Battle rule, rather than a separate game mode.
Four new Adventure rules change how stages play
- Time Attack: Banana Bonus: Collecting bananas reduces the time recorded for finishing.
- No-Miss Challenge: The run ends if the player falls or time runs out.
- Style: High Speed: Changes the monkey’s rolling speed.
- Style: Monkey Eye: Shows the stage from the monkey’s point of view.
Ultimate World is a 20-stage challenge
Ultimate World contains 20 Adventure stages. SEGA describes it as the game’s highest difficulty and says it unlocks after you clear Extra. If it is not available yet, clear Extra first.

Other additions and improvements
The patch history also lists expert missions, Kaledoscope (a Banana Collector Battle stage), quick retry and other improvements to multiplayer Adventure. These are separate from the named new Adventure rules and Ultimate World stages.
Are Hatsune Miku and Godzilla free?
No. The update itself was free, but Hatsune Miku and Godzilla were offered as individual paid playable-character DLC. SEGA said at announcement that each cost 550 yen in Japan; that dated, regional price does not establish current prices or availability elsewhere. Both characters can be used in Adventure and Battle. Miku turns bananas into musical notes, while Godzilla turns them into trains.

What you need to play the update
The update is for the Nintendo Switch game Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble. Existing owners can use the free update without buying the base game again. The physical edition is a way for someone who does not own the game to get the base game; it does not mean the paid character DLC is included.
At launch, SEGA described the game as having 200 Adventure stages, split-screen Adventure for up to four players on one Switch, online Adventure for up to four, and Battle Mode for up to 16 online players. Those are launch product specifications, not a separate assessment of performance. The launch release also promoted Spin Dash and more than 300 customization parts.

How this update fits with other character DLC
Hatsune Miku and Godzilla were not the first additional playable characters. SEGA’s launch materials described the SEGA Pass as including Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Axel and Beat, with individual character purchases also available. In a separate July 31, 2024 release, SEGA confirmed Tails, Knuckles and Amy became available and announced the Sky Highway Battle Race stage. Those earlier additions are distinct from version 2.00.
