Yes, according to BioWare project director Michael Gamble. In October 2024, he said the next Mass Effect would retain the original trilogy’s mature tone and remain photorealistic. Those are statements of creative direction, not a finished look or a technical specification. BioWare has since confirmed that the game remains in development, but has not announced a release date or detailed game information in the sources available.
What BioWare has said about tone and visuals
On October 29, 2024, Gamble told GameSpot that “Mass Effect is photorealistic and will be as long as I’m running it,” and said the series would maintain the original trilogy’s mature tone. He was describing his creative direction for the game; the comments do not establish what the finished game will look or play like.

Gamble also allowed for serious characters to appear in humorous situations. “Mature” therefore should not be read as a promise that every scene will be grim or humorless. His comments distinguish the intended tone and visual direction from the stylized direction of Dragon Age: The Veilguard; they do not make a claim about either game’s quality.
What “photorealistic” does—and does not—confirm
Gamble’s use of “photorealistic” is a broad creative description, not a defined graphics benchmark. The available statements do not specify resolution, frame rate, graphics engine, supported platforms, or demonstrated visual quality. They also do not confirm particular characters, settings, or story details.

What has been confirmed about development
BioWare’s January 29, 2025 studio update said a core team was developing the next Mass Effect game under veterans from the original trilogy: Mike Gamble, Preston Watamaniuk, Derek Watts, and Parrish Ley.
In an official November 7, 2025 N7 Day update, Gamble said the game was in development and that EA and BioWare remained committed to telling more stories in the universe. He added, “But currently, the team is heads-down and focused exclusively on Mass Effect.” In April 2026, Gamble told GamesRadar+ that the developers were busy working and had little time for teasing; the report said concrete details remained scant.

BioWare’s November 2025 post also mentioned a partnership with Amazon on a Mass Effect television series. That is a separate project and does not establish when the series will be released or where it will stream.
